Deadline-Day-Dealings

It's the last day of the winter transfer market and we can expect to see further movement today.

Having signed winger Dejan Kulusevski from Italian giants Juventus, Spurs will allow Bryan Gil to go on loan to Valencia for the remainder of the season for some first team football.

A deal has been agreed and there in no purchase option, it is simply a short term loan.

Despite Conte liking him, there is still a possibility Tottenham and Ajax will come to an agreement for Steven Bergwijn, but it is a 50/50 situation.

We have agreed with Lyon that Tanguy Ndombele can go back there on loan with a purchase option in the summer. He was in France on Sunday.

The PSG deal looks to be off and Juventus were reluctant to pay his wages.

Ndombele was told in no uncertain terms that hw would not get near the team and to find another club.

Giovanni Lo Celso, as you probably know, turned down the chance to move to Lyon but there are several clubs that want to take him on loan, as there are for Dele with Everton now coming into the picture to.

Lo Celso wants to return to Spain, a league he knows and was successful in, Villarreal are the latest side to be interested in taking him.

As this transfer window has shown, right wing-back was never a priority and we have made no serious efforts to sign one, with journalists just guessing that Conte might want to turn Traore into one, but they were just guesses.

I couldn't be more delighted that we are strengthening our midfield, which has been a big problem for us this season.

The defensive midfielders are there to shield the central defenders, but in my view haven't done a great job, as my assessment of Skipp's performances have shown.

While Bentacour is more a box-to-box midfielder, he has a better positional sense than Skipp currently has.

When we are linked with a player I generally go to YouTube, watch some videos and then pick games against the better teams and watch a couple of 90 minute full game replays, without the sound as well as reading scouting reports.

Lo Celso seems to be another Lamela, always injured but you know the talent is there, it just doesn't come out often enough, which is a shame.

Consistency of performance is rather important, you want to know what you are going to get from a player when you put them on the field.

Steve Hitchen, as mentioned before, is charged with finding homegrown talent, particularly the next generation of talent from the lower leagues and non-league football.

Fabio Paratici is dealing with the non-homegrown players with his wealth of contacts in the European game.

Both are not just working for this window, but are working towards the summer transfer window as well.

We have to keep in mind that there will be a wealth of free agents on offer.

Today we have one loan spot available so we could bring in another player on loan with a purchase option.

I see some people are still incorrectly thinking Daniel Levy is involved in negotiations, even journalists who ought to know better, but he isn't.

Paratici is in charge of negotiations, as I keep saying, he has his transfer budget and a wages budget, how he spends it is his responsibility, he has a free hand.

Levy simply signs the paperwork put in front of him, he doesn't give a yes or no decision, he just signs.

In big business you do not do everything yourself, you give people responsibility and let them do their job.

Yes they report to you, but they don't ask permission from you, that is their area of expertise and their responsibility.

Paratici runs the football side of things, he runs the scouting, he runs the transfer business, both in and out.

He wouldn't have come to Tottenham if he didn't have control, and seeking approval for everything is not control, not responsibility.

I appreciate that doesn't fit the agenda of some, but that's the way it is now.

Let me leave you with these thoughts.

Even in a high paid position you are still a part of the rat race, working to make someone else rich, not yourself, you are still beholden to them.

Now if you have others working for you to make you rich, if the Internet works for you 24/7, if you answer to nobody and have the financial freedom to do what you want when you want, you have a far happier life.

One way of thinking has a ceiling, one doesn't.

One looks at winning a trophy, one looks at winning a multitude of trophies.

One has a mental ceiling, one doesn't.

Release the enchained thinking people.
