VIDEO 31 Bale goals & Spurs history today, Chivers, Sherwood, Villa, Henry

8:30 am
Morning Spurs fans we'll start the day with a look at pieces of our history as it happened today and we'll conclude with a video of Gareth Bale's 31 goal season in 2012/13.

First up let's wish a Happy 43rd Birthday to our former Spurs central defender David Tuttle who blessed our ranks between 1989 and 1994.

Double-winner Ron Henry, who sadly passed away in Dec (RIP), scored his only goal for us today in 1965 v Man U (h) 1-0. He collected the Football League First Division - 1961, FA Cup – 1961, 1962 and the European Cup Winners Cup – 1963 with us.

The double back then was considered impossible and in 1963 helped us become the first British side to win a major European trophy. As ever we have to show sides how it's done so they can follow in our footsteps.

In 1974 Big Chiv, that's Martin Chivers if you were unaware, smashed a hat trick against Birmingham City at White Hart Lane in a 4-2 win with Mike Dillon scoring his one and only goal for the club.

In 1982 we beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 6-1 at White Hart Lane where Argentinean import Ricky Villa scored a hat trick to celebrate the opening of the West Stand by Sir Stanley Rous.

In 1999 against Coventry City at White Hart Lane midfielder Tim Sherwood made his Spurs debut in a 0-0 draw.

In 2012 against Liverpool at Anfield Tottenham recorded the clubs 200th draw in the Premier League in a goalless game.

Also in the same game in 2012 against Liverpool at Anfield former star Gareth Bale made the 100th Premier League appearance of his career.

Mabbutt, Hoddle, Beal, Sherwood

10:31 am

On this day is a feature I have been running on Facebook for quite a while now which also appears on Twitter. It gives an opportunity to delve into our past so let's see what today, January 29th throws up for us.

Our first game was in 1898 away against Chatham, which for the uninitiated is a part of the Medway Towns in Kent, about an hour from London by train, assuming there are no leaves on the line of course! This was a Southern League game which we had the misfortune to lose 4-2.

Our last game on this day, before tonight was in 2005 away against West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup 4th Round which we drew 1-1 winning the replay 3-1. Our team selected by Martin Jol was:

Robinson, Kelly, King (c), Gardner, Edman, Davies (Marney 76), Carrick, Brown, Atouba, Defoe (Keane 76), Kanoute.
Unused Subs: Fulop, Bunjevcevic, Paramot
Scorer: Defoe (pen) 32

We have played a total of 9 FA Cup games on this day and our record is: P9 W5 D2 L2 F20 A10

We have played just 2 Premier League games beating Blackburn Rovers at home in 1997 and losing to Newcastle United also at home 1-0 in 2003.

Pat Jennings
Pat Jennings says take note
In 2003 Tim Sherwood left to join Portsmouth and Sergei Rebrov went on loan to Fenerbache (Turkey).

In 1995 Gary Mabbutt scored his last Spurs goal as we beat Sunderland 4-1 away in the FA Cup and in 1986 Glenn Hoddle scored his 100th Spurs goal as we beat Notts County 5-0 at home also in the FA Cup.

In 1968 Phil Beal scored his only goal which helped us beat Queens Park Rangers 3-2 at home in the old First Division. The same game saw David Jenkins score his last goal for us.

We have played a grand total of 20 games for which our record is: W12 D3 L5 F44 A23

Our home record in all games on this day is: P13 W10 D1 L2 F33 A10

Our home league record on this day is: P8 W5 D1 L2 F14 A6

1906 QPR                  Home Western League 1 - 2
1910 Bradford City         Home First Division         0 - 0
1938 Luton Town         Home Second Division 3 - 0
1966 Blackburn Rovers Home First Division         4 - 0
1969 QPR                  Home First Division         3 - 2
