Has Diego Simone been offered to Spurs?

Thus far we have looked at Louis Van Gaal, Joachim Löw (my choice although I'd be happy with Frank De Boer), Carlos Queiroz, Alberto Zaccheroni, Murat Yakin and have talked about various other options.

Louis Van Gaal has an agreement already in place with Manchester United it is believed within footballing circles with possibly New York stock exchange rules I believe preventing an announcement as yet.

Tow more managers on the fans list are Marcelo Bielsa, formerly of Athletic Bilbao but now has just signed a contract with Marseilles for next season and Diego Simone who has been offered to a top London club says a football agent.

Has Diego Simone been offered to Spurs?

Simone is manager of an impressive Athletico Madrid side he has built. Currently the former Argentinian international has them sitting top of La Liga after 35 games. They are 4 points ahead of Barcelona and 6 ahead of Real Madrid who have a game in hand. With 3 games to go a remarkable title in their own destiny. They have Levante (a), Malaga (h) and Barcelona (a) to play.

They have scored 75 goals with a positive goal difference of 53 compared to Barcelona's 97 goals and 67 difference and Real Madrid's 98 goals and 66 difference. The next best in the La Liga is fourth placed Athletic Bilbao who have scored 62 with a goal difference of 24.

They drew 0-0 with Chelsea in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final having knocked out Barcelona in the last round, the first time they have reached the semi-final stage in more than 40 years. He won the Europa League in 2012 and beat Chelsea 4-1 to win the UEFA Super Cup. In 2013 he beat Real Madrid to win the Copa del Rey and achieved his sides best league finish since 1996, third.

Things could not be going much better for the 44 year-old who it is said has installed the same winning mentality at Athletico that he had in his 106 cap career for his country.

The question is, when you have won the league title (assuming they do) at a club other than Barcelona or Real Madrid do you stay or leave because everything is downhill after that.

That mentality he has installed is the same winning mentality Tim Sherwood has, exactly what the Tottenham players are missing. Is the though of him coming though just pie in the sky? Well perhaps not.

Football agent Jonathan Hope of Revolution Sports Management revealed earlier this month he has offered Diego Simone to a top London club.

“With club takeovers and transfers gearing up, we are in for one big window and with the World Cup approaching it’s only going to put more value on players.
“Staff turnarounds are going to be vital for clubs and I’ve proposed Diego Simone and his Sporting Director Caminero to a top London club and they in turn have their own shortlist of players. With ongoing talks in regards to Benzema, Elneny and Basanta are huge for the Premier League.

So could that top London club be Tottenham? Chelsea have Mourinho so pointless offering him to them and Arsenal have Wenger who in unlikely to be going anywhere, that just leaves us. Simone is not going to leave a team top of La Liga for a mid table club or one fighting relegation, he'll want one capable of getting into the Champions League and Spurs fit that bill.

If Simone came to Tottenham he would replicate what he has built at Athletico Madrid, a passionate, tireless and very, very difficult to beat side. He has the unwavering commitment of his players who are rigorous, intelligent and fight tooth and nail.

Prior to embracing the attacking philosophy of Athletico's history, a style that Tottenham also demand, he build his teams on defensive tactics. Thus he can achieve with both methods and at the moment is out doing two of the best teams in the world in a major European league.

Spurs fans could once again expect to see fast counter-attacking football, the style that Harry Redknapp deployed to set the Champions League alight and breath new life into a tired competition.

Simone works on a principle of loyalty and trust with staff and players. His fitness coach, Oscar Ortega, has worked with him for nearly 10 years and commands more responsibility than you would normally expect of a fitness coach. He takes the first 20 minutes to condition players before Simone even appears on the training ground.

His assistant coach is another Argentinian, former goalkeeper Germán Burgos in whom he has complete faith. He demands total commitment from everyone and shows that himself leaving his family in Argentina when he took his current job so as not to uproot the for a potential short-term appointment. Thus he shows his players he makes sacrifice, he expects it of them.

Certainly having an Argentinian manager can only help Erik Lamela settle at White Hart Lane and produce the football everyone knows he is capable of.

He stands permanently in the technical area overseeing every detail in the game so once again we would have a coach who looks at fine detail but one who embraces that with flair and attacking football rather than the dour stuff AVB served up.

I have been writing my Spurs Need To Go Mental series and Diego Simone embodies what I have been writing about, attention to detail, hard work, total commitment and above all a winning mentality.

He fits in with what we are looking for and having been offered to a top London club the fingers are crossed that that was Tottenham Hotspur.
