Youth development high on the agenda

Regular readers will know I have for some time now suggested we need a tie up with at least one side on the continent, a Dutch or Belgian club would not be far away or even a side in Spain where money is tight.



Players develop abroad quicker because sides with less money are forced to play them at a younger age where they quickly learn to fight for a place. Chelsea have a deal with Vitesse Arnham and have sent 5 players there on loan. The Chelsea model is to buy players, loan them out to be further developed until such time as they are good enough to play for the club or to sell them if they are deemed surplus to requirements. Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and striker Romelu Lukaku show this in action.

We tried to get a deal with Roda JC before but they felt there was not enough benefit in the deal for them but 2 years down the line and with a new technical advisor recently appointed, Ton Caanen, a deal between the two clubs has now been struck report Voetbal International.

They report that officials came over last Saturday to discuss the deal and Caanen explained he was to be the link man between the clubs.

This is excellent news, another step to developing a structure whereby we can buy the best young players in the world, then develop them faster than the traditional slow British method. It augurs well and should help us to create a conveyor belt of talent, which is the aim. Tom Carroll should have gone to Afax when Christian Eriksen came to Tottenham, he made a mistake in turning them down which hindered his development. This deal should help to make sure that mistake isn't repeated.

Youth development is the key to a sustainable future not dependent upon the sugar daddy a few cry for. Ut does seem as if Spurs have turned a corner and are really getting the club on a far more serious and professional footing, acting in a way a top club should act. Piece by piece the future is being built.

A 5-year Partnership agreement = free shirt for fans

Tottenham Hotspur have extended a 16 year association by another 5 years with MBNA with will remain as the clubs official UK Credit Card Partner until the end of the 2018/19 season.

Tottenham Hotspur and MBNA have launched a new credit card offer. You will need to check eligibility rules but those who quality and spend £200 in the first 90 days can receive a complimentary 2014/15 third shirt. Should you wish to apply you will need to check all the terms and conditions with the company, the link will take you to the application page: MBNA.

Michael Donald, Commercial and Customer Experience executive for MBNA is delighted his company is continuing it's long association with Tottenham and was able to celebrate by making fans this new offer.

Thomas Cook Sport will continue to supply all Tottenham Hotspur travel needs is a multi-year deal.

Tottenham have signed another partner to work with following the recent partnership agreement with Sportfive.

The club began working with Thomas Cook in 2007 and has now signed a new multi-year deal with Thomas Cook. The deal sees the travel specialist become the official supplier of all team, club and supporter travel.

Thomas Cook Sport will now fulfil all Tottenham Hotspur's travel needs which of course will begin in a couple of weeks with a pre-season tour to USA and Canada. It will also involve all travel arrangements for Europa League matches.

If you consider your own holiday travel arrangements, or your own business trips, then you'll have an idea of the services this will involve the company supplying. It is a little more involved than simply booking a flight and a hotel, especially as a football team not only have special needs but are VIP guests.

Thomas Cook Sport will not just be supplying the club but will be the official partner supplying ticket, travel and accommodation packages to us Spurs fans. They also have deals with Chelsea, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Everton and Liverpool.

The travel operator will continue to supply Match Breaks for all Tottenham home games and are offering a 10% discount for all matches in August and September booked through their website.
