Transfer Talk: Malcom, Ünder, Aurier, Trippier

The Liverpool Echo are being rather silly linking Everton with Malcom. They tell us Malcom is holding crunch talks with Barcelona, bit late considering the president has already put him on the transfer list.

Malcom will want UEFA Champions League football, which Everton don't have, indeed they don't have any European football next season and he isn't going to entertain any side not in the premier European competition. In addition, his wages would be too much for Everton as well.

That is just common sense and it is amazing that so many journalists don't possess any it seems.

Gazetta dello Sport suggests Tottenham and Arsenal want to sign 21-year-old (22 in July) Turkish international Cengiz Ünder.

His agent has been negotiating, according to Il Romanista, with caretaking Director of Football Frederic Massara about whether he stays or leaves. Roma failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, they are in the 2nd Qualifying Round of the Europa League, as did Arsenal, also in the Europa League and he wants to play in the competition.

That suggests he might leave which will alert Spurs, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea, all of whom have been following his progress in Italy. Lyon, qualified for Champions League and Marseille, don't have European football.

Ünder is currently under contract until 2022 and Roma are considering Marseille winger Florian Thauvin as his replacement.

Various different reports around Europe suggest Manchester United, Manchester City, and Barcelona are also tracking him and that Roma will listen to offers over £26.49 million (€30m).

AS Monaco are very interested in 26-year-old (27 in December) former PSG right-back Serge Aurier who is under contract until 2022. Monaco failed to qualify for Europe so it is unlikely the Ivorian international would entertain a move. They are suggesting a figure of £15 million (€17m) which certainly won't be enough.

Napoli have reportedly pulled out of a move for Kieran Trippier with the suggestion that the hierarchy there think he is too old. More likely is that they do not want to pay our valuation of him, which is almost double what they have offered.

Other reports suggest they haven't pulled out of a potential deal.

Aurier and Sissoko Happy At Spurs

Serge-Aurier

Tottenham Hotspur right-back Serge Aurier and midfielder Moussa Sissoko have been talking to Canal Football Club and Aurier has suggested he wants to stay at Spurs.

“In football things can happen very quickly. For the moment I do not desire to leave Tottenham. For the moment, I am very happy. This season I have been interrupted by injury more than anything else, but life is like that."

He talked about fighting his way into the starting eleven.

"I will have to see what will happen. We have done a good season and we are in the Champions’ League final, we are going to enjoy that, see how it goes and next year, my season is not finished, I still have an Africa Cup of Nations too.”

Moussa-Sissoko

Fellow Frenchman Moussa Sissoko told the channel that everything was going well at Tottenham but if Pochettino left things could change. He wasn't suggesting that was likely, just that nobody ever knows anything in the football business.

“Today I feel good over there, this year everything is going well for me. I am still under contract with them so all is good. But as he (Serge Aurier) said, and you know it better than me, anything can happen in football very quickly.

"Not necessarily, I don’t know. At the end of the season, it could be that they have a new project, that a new coach comes, and he doesn’t count on me, he wants to sell me. Many different things could happen. But for the moment I feel good there, I am happy there. And in my head I have no thoughts of leaving."

Napoli turn their attention to Aurier

Carlo Ancelotti is taking an interest in Serge Aurier

According to Sky Sport Italia, a deal for Manchester United’s 28-year-old (29 in December) Italian international full-back Matteo Darmian is proving somewhat difficult. That has prompted Serie A side Napoli to turn to Tottenham Hotspur right-back Serge Aurier.
Aurier only joined Tottenham last summer in a deal worth around £20.45 million (€23m) from Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain. The Ivorian struggled to impose himself in his first season but is looking to push on with a pre-season and the USA tour under his belt.
It is expected that with Danny Rose and Kieran Trippier only returning to training next week that Serge Aurier and Ben Davies will start the season against Newcastle United as the full-backs or wing-backs depending upon the system used.
Having failed to bring in the likes of Youssouf Sabaly, Santiago Arias and Stefan Lainer so far, Elseid Hysaj remains Carlo Ancelotti’s only recognised right-back.
His attempts to sign Aurier are likely to be rebuffed by Spurs, even though Kyle Walker-Peters is developing nicely.

Bale Unwanted At Real Madrid and Aurier Still A Concern

Gareth-Bale

Gareth Bale

Marca say Real Madrid are set to offload Gareth Bale this summer after too many injuries have left him sat on the bench once more. Zinidine Zidane no longer seems to have any trust in him and President Florentino Pérez is thought to be looking at a major overhaul after a disastrous season that sees them 14 points behind Barcelona, 7 points behind Atlético Madrid and just 2 points ahead of Valencia. They are also out of the Spanish Cup.

While we have the option to match any offer, his wages are £13.28 million annually (that's just over £250,000-a-week).

I do believe a sponsor might be interested, it would be great publicity for Nike if Bale returned home to Spurs and he would make a difference to commercial income.

However, other players would all then want a wage increase, which at the present time we wouldn't be able to afford, have to generate the income first. Speculate to accumulate isn't a viable option for the majority of football clubs. Without the income you can't continue to afford the wages and you have to sell. Now you are on a downward spiral that it's difficult to get out of, now your club is going backwards, not forwards and it is difficult to attract players again when there are other options.

Real Madrid Set To Dispense With Bale

Serge Aurier

Serge-Aurier

After watching him give away a needless penalty against Real Madrid, a needless penalty against Juventus and getting himself sent-off, the fears over Aurier haven't gone away.

Kieran Trippier is arguably the best crosser of a ball, as a full-back, in the Premier League, no other crosses it so accurately on the volley so often. It is a killer ball if you get it right as the defence don't have time to set themselves.

For the UEFA Champions League second leg against Juventus Aurier is suspended so Trippier will be starting. He isn't as quick as Aurier and Douglas Costa is lightening as we saw from the first leg and tricky too. We will have to very careful there.

Aurier an improvement of Walker suggests Hoddle

4:12 pm

Glenn Hoddle speaking to talkSPORT felt that the signing of Ivorian international right-back Serge Aurier doesn't weaken Spurs after selling Kyle Walker to Manchester City for £54 million (€61.40m - AUS$91.66m - US$73.35m) including add-ons.

"Losing Kyle Walker and replacing him with Aurier, it looks like that will work. Going forward he looks good, I think he will get better and better and I think he will probably make Tottenham better defensively."

Aurier had to have a jail sentence overturned before we could sign him and his official paperwork didn't come through until the final couple of days of the window. He is, therefore, one player we couldn't purchase earlier in the window even if we wanted to, which we did. He was our first choice replacement for Walker and his display at Wembley augurs well for the future.

Aurier wrote in Instagram "good luck guys" which has fuelled speculation that he isn't playing today and that Kieran Trippier will take his place. He only arrived at the club after the international break so he may well need a rest and we have a very capable replacement anyway.

It is a squad game and we need to rotate players as and when we can without rotating them all at once. It takes a bit of planning.

Serge Aurier - Passionate madman

10:30 am

SUPERB SERGE SHINES

Serge Aurier gave the doom and gloom merchants a look at what Tottenham have replaced right-back Kyle Walker with and showed them a better footballer, perhaps now they will have more faith in our transfer policy, no I doubt it either.

He slotted in seamlessly on his Spurs debut, as if he had been playing there for seasons and it is to this calibre of player we are looking now, not just anybody to fuel fans obsession for a quick signing, any signing. Patience is a virtue.
Serge Aurier stats 100% take-ons completed 5 crosses 3 interceptions 2 tackles won 1 chance created

Just as Vlad Chiriches dazzled some with a flick over a defender, which the rest of us saw as a disaster waiting to happen, which it duly did, so Serge Aurier gave us a dummy inside our own penalty area. The difference was that the Dortmund player was far enough away for it not to be a risk, Chiriches was total risk.

Some fans thought he had slipped until they saw the replay, others thought it was madness. It took a cool head and an awareness of the situation around him.

He showed skill in tight areas, pace, but often not enough to get past his man and a better defensive awareness than the player he replaced, walker. Kieran Trippier, who will presumably play Saturday will now have to up his game to where it was at the back end of last season.

He celebrated Karry Kane's goal with passion and is sure to become a fans favourite.

TOTTENHAM TALK

"Personally I would sign for Arsenal due to the fact that Spurs have a better defence and I probably wouldn’t play." - Joleon Lescott

Mauricio Pochettino was asked about Toby Alderweireld who has yet to be officially offered a new contract despite initial talks already having taken place.

"He was talking with me this morning and he's so happy, he wants to make it clear he is fully committed with the club."

Pochettino spoke about new right-back signing Serge Aurier who has been the subject of some distension from a section of Spurs fans. I recall writing early in the summer that it seemed to me that his problems revolved around a break down in relationship with his manager at PSG and that everything was a reaction to that. Had there not been that difficulty, the two clearly don't like each other, then perhaps his off the field problems may not have arisen.

"We had a long chat. He knows v well how we are, what we expect. It’s so important, not only him, every player, how they behave. I’m the first to make mistakes in my life. It’s important people give the opportunity to show that you learn."

Pochettino explained that there were only 17 players available to player from associations other than the English FA trained players so some players had to be left out. Erik Lamela isn't going to be fully match fit until November probably and the other unlucky player was Vincent Janssen. He told reporters it was simply about numbers.

He went on to suggest that getting the chance to sign a player like Fernando Llorente was an opportunity that was too good to miss nad was delighted that he chose to join Tottenham over Chelsea. His experience in winning a World Cup would be valuable to our young squad.

Aurier at Spurs for the challenge, not the money

11:16 am

TOTTENHAM TALK

Serge Aurier claims in an article in Africa that PSG offered him a new three-year contract and that he has always dreamt of playing in England. he indicated that moving to Tottenham was not about money but about enjoying a new experience and having fun with a club consistently fighting at the top of the league.

Full Article: Serge Aurier

I am looking forward to seeing the Ivory Coast right-back play in a Spurs shirt and how Davinson Sanchez gets on also. The pressure is back on Kieran Trippier, who it has been suggested isn't fully fit yet, although he was in the England squad, which casts doubt on that theory. He certainly hasn't been at his best so far.

Sanchez has more pace than our other central defenders and with a positive start, we may well see Eric Dier back in midfield more regularly. Currently he can swap with either a central defender or Vincent Wanyama. With his desire to leave for Manchester United it will be interesting to see how he is utilised this season, now we know the full squad and now there is competition for places.
