Mauricio Pochettino is laying down a few markers at Tottenham Hotspur as he plays players and drops them, presumably he is giving everyone a go in match conditions to see what they can do.

Sanity was restored when Jan Vertonghen was recalled from his exile in the second team to replace Vlad Chiriches. Kyle Naughton returned to give Eric Dier a rest, Mousa Dembele was dropped after last weeks poor display. In came Ryan Mason for his debut after changing the course of the game in midweek.

The Argentinian head coach has clearly shown his players that nobody is above being dropped if they don't perform. That makes selection for the next league game interesting

Pochettino also changed his tactics, employing the Jose Mourinho method of playing for a point in big games away from home. Obviously you then hope to nick it, which we almost did. The pressing game was employed when in a position to use it and paid off for the goal. Ball retention was not great but a point keeps us just 2 points off fourth or fifth with goal difference.

Just 30% possession yet our two banks preventing any great opportunities for Arsenal. After a poor first half counter attacking display where we couldn't keep the ball and only shone for the final 15 minutes.

It wasn't a great game to watch, Arsenal simply had too much of the ball and you just knew they would eventually score as a result but there were plenty of pluses for us. Younes Kaboul put in his first decent performance for 3 seasons, Danny Rose continues to impress at left-back, Ryan Mason can play at this level, Chadli continues to make intelligent runs.

Erik Lamela pops up with another assist, a good pass again but did little else, it's clear we are playing him to get him adjusted to the league given that he has played much less than all the other summer signings from last year.

Satisfied was the best way to describe that I think, the fans will be satisfied this week.

Arsenal vs Spurs - statistics suggests Spurs may score first

11:00 pm

Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur

Saturday 27 Sept 2014
Kick-off: 17:30 GMT

The English Premier League (EPL) table isn't as good as it should be from a Tottenham fans point of view after a woeful performance last week saw 3 points thrown away from a corner that we should never have given away in the first place. Thanks to someone trying to be too clever we paid the ultimate price against the team who were bottom of the league at the time.

The form table is obviously the same, the season only being 5 games old.

Home form verses away form is always an important factor when trying to assess a result and neither side in in what you'd call great form, even though Arsenal are unbeaten.

With so few games there is not a lot to go on in those table as yet so how have we fared since 2002?

The overall record is not great, just looking at this corresponding fixture Arsenal have won 9, we have drawn 2 and only won 1, a 2-3 victory in November 2010. We have scored 15 goals in 12 games since 2002 and conceded 32. In 5 of those games we have failed to score, however there are often plenty of goals in the tie.

There had been 125 goals scored in Premier League meetings between Tottenham and Arsenal, more than any other fixture before we played them last year so that tally can now be added to by a further 2.

This season Arsenal have scored 75% of their home goals in the second half and we have scored 67% of our away goal in the second half so that would point to the second half containing more goals than the first.

However Arsenal have conceded 67% of the goals at home in the first half and 83% in all games compared to Spurs 50% away from home and 33% conceded in the first half in all games.

Arsenal have yet to score the first goal at home this season whereas Tottenham have scored first in both their away games. To negate that neither Arsenal have not been in front at half-time in any home games and Tottenham haven't been in front at half-time in any away games this season.

At home Arsenal have been in font for an average of just 4.5 minutes per game while Tottenham have been in front for an average 18 minutes per game away from home.

Weighing up what the statistics say perhaps suggests 0-0 at half-time with goals in the second half but this fixture regularly seems to see early goals. It's tough to call we ourselves off form and Arsenal missing defenders but I doubt it will be a simple 1-0 this season.
