Lamla not the miss fans think

5:01 pm
Twitter tells me Lamela is out I see and that Son Heung-min will take his place with a few suggestions that he needs to step his game up from recent performances.

For me, he is one who always puts in a shift and has great feet that can produce something to unlock a game. Considering our 2013 purchases took 2 years to adjust, he has done Ok in his first season with us. Certainly he seems a happy soul in the changing room, always being seen smiling and laughing.

Some I see are panicking, calling Lamela crucial to our play or a massive miss, which is complete nonsense. We have played many games without him successfully. Fans do like to overreact when their favourites are missing overvaluing their importance. He has had an excellent season for us and has come on leaps and bound after finally getting around the mental barriers he had.

We change our three behind Harry Kane all the time to give them rest periods so if one is missing it doesn't really matter. It's a squad game these days and Son is an excellent replacement for him.

It is a happy Spurs camp and happiness is infectious. Doom and gloom is never going to help the club win anything so it's good to see so many getting on the positive bandwagon and leaving the rest behind.

Will Spurs impose themselves on Liverpool?

3:12 pm
It should be an interesting game today with Liverpool at the stage we were at last season, learning a new system under a new manager. Like ourselves, they have had both good and bad results. I remember when Brendan Rogers took over they spent a year learning how he wanted them to play and were poor for that season, then they took off the following season finishing second.

The side had Sturridge and Suarez, once Suarez left though they were not the same side which shows fans that any side should not be built around one player. It is sustainable if that player leaves and having a club that can play sustainable football is essential for any long-term success.

Tottenham under Mauricio Pochettino has developed a style of playing, which, as we have seen this season, can be continued if any player isn't available. Of course it helps if you have talented players within the squad, but a club who plays a sustainable brand of football will attract players. Agents and their clients are not daft, they look at clubs, where they are at, where they are going and can assess for themselves whether it would be a good career move for them to join any particular club.

A Tottenham side in the Champions League playing a brand of football that develops players and has been shown to work with players at a higher level with each move Pochettino has made. Strikers have always been reluctant to come to Spurs as basically we have had nothing to offer but hope, now we will have Champions League football to offer and by not scraping in through the back door and thus having to go through playoffs, we hope, our pull becomes greater.

For now, we rely on Harry Kane who is showing himself to be better than probably every Tottenham fan thought. Yes, we knew he was a goalscorer, but the fact he scores goals out of nothing regularly is a bonus, as is his work rate for the team.

Which Liverpool will turn up today, who knows. That makes the outcome unpredictable, but we are playing good football at present and go into every game confident. I'm looking forward to the game with optimism, there is nothing to fear and a poor Anfield record means nothing to a side with genuine belief in themselves.

Owen impressed, defensive axis vital

10:30 am
Michael Owen see goals in the Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur tie tonight with Liverpool's home record and the results Tottenham have been picking up away from home. He was impressed with Spurs at the weekend but as a former Liverpool player will no doubt be hoping for a Reds win.

Owen impressed, defensive axis vital

Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping to see off another team in red after the impressive performance against Arsenal that Owen, who now owns a successful horse racing stables as well as his role as a TV pundit, describes as a real eye opener  to
“Spurs pressed, harried and eventually broke Arsenal’s will in the North London Derby on Saturday and for a side that have played so many games already this season their energy was a real eye-opener.
“The Reds have only lost one of their last 20 PL home games with Spurs but this is a Spurs side who have won five of their last seven games on the road; I expect to see goals.”
It's another one of those tough games to call with Spurs conceding chances the way we play. We press high, we can get caught. We are open to swift counter-attacks but that's the price we pay for our style and it's places a huge emphasis on Nabil Bentaleb, the first choice defensive midfielder in the more defensive of the two roles. Equally when Benjamin Stambouli or Etienne Capoue come in to take the role they have to perform at a high level without getting the fans plaudits.

In any team the role is essential to success, they are the most important player in the team as they allow the attacking players to do their thing and take all the credit. Many many fans unfortunately don't see the work players in this role do as it isn't eye catching, Bentaleb has had to take a lot of criticism, with cries of 'what does he do' regularly ringing out.

Harry Kane took Man of the Match against Arsenal but Bentaleb and Mason were the real stars, Mason caught the eye but Bentaleb was outstanding, from a defensive position he even found time to have 4 shots and cross for the second goal.

That defensive axis will once again be vital against Liverpool.

Win, Lose, or Draw?

4:52 pm
Sunday's match up at Anfield will be tough for us, especially with the news that Aaron Lennon will most likely miss the match. Harry will make a decision on whether to include him in the squad or not tomorrow.

Can we call on Bentley? Probably not. When I look back on his stint with us, it really annoys me that he simply couldn't be asked.

With Aazza missing, it looks as though Harry's got two options;

  1. Stick the Croatian lads on both wings
  2. Play Keane on the left and one of the Croatian lads on the right
Let's hope Harry goes with option 1. Keane, for whatever reason, isn't with it. He's lost his mojo and it looks like he won't be getting it back any time soon.

I was reading Alan Hansen's column on the game and had to back-track when I read Liverpool aren't "playing at nowhere near their best." You what? Is he for real? I don't want to turn this article into a Liverpool Lovin' but I am pretty sure the players that Rafa has, are playing to the best of their ability. You can argue that Gerrard is off form, but that doesn't account for the rest of them, does it? Torres is injured, or has some sort of issue, that's plain to see. Saying that, would you swap any of their players for ours (excluding G & T)? The only one I would consider, would be José Reina.

So, do I think we can beat them? Yes. They have the home advantage, but we have the better players and obvious buzz about us at the moment. I also think the game will be an open affair and our recent flutter with clean-sheets will be a thing of the past.

We could be in luck!

12:07 pm
It looks as though our game on Sunday may be postponed as the weather continues to cause havoc. I suppose the only good news to come from this is that Aaron Lennon, who would have probably missed the game on Sunday, should be fit enough to face them when the game is back on again.

According to a few colleagues, the rules state that a game can be called off 24 hours in advance, unless circumstances allow for a cancellation prior to the stated 24 hours.

We should be given an answer on whether or not it's officially off, later this evening.
