Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilón Signing

Well, we are going to have a week long heatwave which is good news, much like the good news coming out of Tottenham.

I have also discovered another of the frogs hiding places around the pond, one, the tiniest one, sits in a plant that disguises him very well with just his head showing.

For a couple of days I saw a long thin leaf move and I have seen him move there before, but this time I spotted where he sits, of course he may be a she but hey ho.

Another glorious day so it'll be another day to take my Mum to the seafront and let her sit there soaking up the sun for a bit before it gets too hot for her.

Then it'll be back to the Tour de France on the box.

Right on to Tottenham Tittle Tattle and the expected imminent signings of Gareth Bale and the agreed dead for Sergio Reguilón.

Tottenham have been seriously talking with Real Madrid and Gareth Bale through his agents about getting a deal done.

Yes we do this every summer, but this time it is different, there is a very real desire from Bale to return to Spurs (where he was happy) and to play football, for us to sign him and for Real Madrid to sell him to us.

It will not be cheap wages wise of course but Real Madrid are bending on previous stances.

I understand the proposal is a 1-year loan deal with a purchase option set at €20-25m and that Real Madrid are willing to pay 50% of his wages for the next 2 years to get him off the books.

Real Madrid haven't thrown any spanners in the works, nor have Bale's agents as he really does want the deal done as his agent, Jonathan Barnett, has now publicly said.

At the moment he is training away from the main Los Blancos squad, as is left-back Sergio Reguilón.

Madrid-based newspaper ABC recently reported that Bale will not feature for a single second under head coach Zinédine Zidane.

Bale himself said recently: “I am only 31, I feel I am in great shape still and feel like I have a lot to give. We will see what happens. It's in the club's hands but they make things very difficult to be honest.”

Tottenham are in fact their best option of getting rid of Bale because of our link with him.

When you are down on confidence, as Bale is, then mentally you need to return to a happy place.

Now a sports psychologist could teach you this, another reason why they should be a compulsory part of football training, but the other option is to return to a place where you were happy,adored, where you were successful.

Back at Spurs he knows he will be welcomed, he knows he will get the adulation, the opportunity, he knows the Premier League and the new training facilities and stadium will only give another boost.

Top players want top facilities.

Daniel Levy has been the instigator and I believe we are at the point where a final decision needs to be made.

In principle, the deal has roughly been agreed, rough finances have been discussed and all have generally said yes.

These are tight times, if we go for this deal we are taking a risk, a big risk but it would surely shut up all the idiots that say Levy has no ambition.

Signing Bale would raise our profile, keep us in the news, attract sponsors and commercial revenue, perhaps even attract a naming rights sponsor for the stadium, which would be a huge bonus for us at this time.

Personally I think this potential deal has held up the striker signing because of the amount of finances involved and whether it was going to be a straight purchase or a loan and purchase option.

We are closer than we have ever been to doing a deal and once the button is pressed this could move quickly.

Once we know one way or the other on this deal, then we can finalise a striker deal.

This could move quickly if Daniel Levy gives the final green light.

Real Madrid want Bale off the books so they can sign PSG forward Kylian Mbappé who they have had an agreement with for a couple of seasons.

Mbappé has told PSG he wants to leave and wishes to move next summer.

They have got James Rodríguez off the books, Gareth Bale is next one they want off the books.

Now if we get Bale on a loan initially, then we can't get a striker on loan initially, so the original offer reported for Andreas Belotti wouldn't be possible.

We can only have 2 loan players and we already have Gedson, add Bale to that and that's our full quota.

If we bought Bale outright straight away then we could get a striker in on loan initially with an option to buy.

We have been discussing for a while and we are not going from striker to striker as the press would have you believe.

We want Carlos Vinícius, the Benfica striker and so do Wolves.

He could come to us or if he goes to Wolves then we could pick up Raúl Jiménez from Wolves.

As you know we have other cheaper options like Habib Diallo who is available and has agreed provisionally to join us.

Sergio Reguilón has now been agreed as well and no doubt he has spoken with Bale about the club.

Reguilón is the 23-year-old (24 in December) Real Madrid left-back who was out on loan last season at Europa League winners Sevilla.

This proposed transfer moved fast yesterday because we accepted the buy-back clause that we have always refused and which Manchester United refused, something which has always held up any dealings with Real Madrid in the past.

This is a u-turn on previous policy and really does shout that we want a squad now, it also shouts that the youth like Sessegnon are not ready to play left-back on a regular basis.

Signing Bale and Reguilón will put serious question marks over the rather disappointing Sessegnon who has shown the difference in standard between the Championship and the Premier League.

He rips up the Championship but hasn't been able to establish himself in the Premier League.

His game wasn't good enough, his physicality wasn't good enough, mentally he wasn't good enough and, quite frankly, it is taking longer than it should for him to break through with so many games under his belt at such a young age.

Ben Davies, Sergio Reguilón, Erik Lamela, Son Heung-min and Gareth Bale would all be ahead of him so it would surely be in his best interests to secure a Premier League loan move.

Fulham can't take him, they already have two loan players, Mario Lemina from Southampton and Ola Aina from Serie A side Torino.

Spanish international Reguilón came through the youth set-up at Real and made his first-team debut in October 2018, since when he has scored 2 goals and had a further 6 assists in 45 LaLiga games.

He impressed last season but would be third choice back at Madrid behind rivals Ferland Mendy and Marcelo in the eyes of boss Zidane.

The fee for Reguilón would be €25-30 million depending upon which Spanish paper you read (Marca say €25m).

You know our press do not know because they are quoting a buy-back clause of between €35-40 million and speculating that Tottenham would only make €5m if Real Madrid activated the clause in the next 2 years.

If it were the lower figure then any potential profit would be €10m which sounds more logical on our part to me.

The latest news is that personal terms are agreed and just the formalities of the paperwork to complete.
