Tanguy Ndombélé and Odsonne Édouard

Ndombele-Edouard

Well folks, at the moment, much to José Mourinho's disappointment nobody is bidding anywhere near what we paid for Tanguy Ndombélé.

From what I understand we have only had bids that value him under £30 million and Daniel Levy is not going to take a big hit on a players who has the potential into the £90 million range when the sport has financially recovered some ground.

We had this with Lamela, he decided he no longer wanted to be here when he first arrived, that he had made a mistake and his head went.

The effort went and he becomes a negative force within the group and negativity is cancerous and breeds failure as we know.

Ndombélé has had his agent try to find him a move but a move is not going to take place that values him that lowly.

That leaves Ndombélé with a dilemma.

Does he continue to sulk and sit on the sidelines all season wasting his career and remember the same thing happened to David Bentley who never got his game back again, or does he decide he wants to play, starts being positive about his situation working with one of the world's top coaches and knuckle down?

The answer, he might, I say might (there is a glimmer of hope) have decided the latter because he is putting the effort in on the training field it seems.

The issue is not what he does with the ball, nobody denies he is excellent on the ball, it is what he does off the ball, where currently he is a liability avoiding the game and hiding.

Does he just turn off, go into watch the ball mode and forget his positional duties?
Is he simply irresponsible and can't be bothered with them?
Has he deliberately being avoiding them to force a move?

Whatever the reason, is he going to play the off the ball game now or not, that's all that matters.

Watford wasn't encouraging, but it was just a fitness game for him, his first 45 minutes.

There is a month of mind games to go and the situation is still the same as before, it is entirely down to his mentality and what mentality he is going to go into the season with.

Only he can decide that, we can't and he'll only perform if he changes his negative mentality to a positive one.

We'll only see on the pitch but first he would have to win the trust of Mourinho, having obviously lost it previously.

A chat isn't going to change it, only effort on the training ground and a responsible attitude on the field, when given an opportunity, probably a second half substitute opportunity.

Mourinho will then watch him off the ball, watch his positioning, watch his running recovery speed, watch his reading of the game.

Is he proactive and in position to stop danger or reacting and always behind chasing the danger?

At the moment it is the latter.

It needs to be the former.

I'm looking forward to the Europa League games to see if he gets some game time and how he reacts.

Right, on to other matters and a striker we have been negotiating for.

Tottenham are keeping at least one negotiation under the radar with those involved not allowed to reveal to anyone who it is, agents instructed not to reveal and those who have been told been instructed not to tell anyone.

Nobody is going to destroy the confidence of a source to reveal who the young striker is.

I will stress right here that I do not know who this striker is.

I will make guess though, 22-year-old (23 next January) Odsonne Édouard.

Celtic want as close to £40m as they can get.

The Scottish club were eliminated from the Champions League and have dropped into the Europa League.

The French U-21 international (7 caps, 12 goals) contract expires in 2022.

He is a player we all dismissed as being ideal, but too expensive, will the price come down with the weeks of the window rolling by.

First Alasdair Gold Football London then the Athletic have both starting to mention my man Habib Diallo.

Fans are complaining because the season starts but manager and more importantly chairman, don't think like fans.

The window is the window and clubs will always try to charge too much for players earlier in the window so businessmen who run clubs wait until late in a window so the pressure is on to reduce asking prices and be more flexible.

It is no different from a Brexit negotiation.

Both sides have red lines that are incompatible, the EU want to tie the UK's hands and it appears break up the Union, while the UK will be independent so obviously can't be tied or have to ask permission of the EU for anything, something they haven't grasped yet.

Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain, who has had his contract terminated and just has to agree a pay-off figure was offered to Tottenham.

The 32-year-old (33 in December) wasn't a player Mourinho was interested in and he is now set to complete a move to David Beckham's Inter Miami in the MLS.

Tottenham were only linked with another Juventus player Douglas Costa because he was offered to us, he isn't someone we asked about.

Juventus are having difficulty finding a buyer for the 29-year-old (30 later this month), with reports suggesting his only firm proposals are from China and Qatar.
