Summer Transfer Window Day 10

Summer Transfer Window Day 10

Another glorious day to be a Spurs as it means you get to read another post from Tottenham Hotspur Blog News (THBN), this time the Summer Transfer Window Day 10 piece.

Now I will remind you that for greater understanding of the transfer window, you really do need to read the Summer Transfer Window Day 7 (opens in a new window) piece.

In that I explain matters that will enhance your understanding and enjoyment of the twists and turns of the 2022 summer transfer window.

Grab your cuppa and bacon butty and take 5 minutes out of your busy sofa lounging to read these two posts and hear the light bulb moments go off when you see social media comments in your daily Spurs news search.

I'll start by running off on a tangent because I posted Royal Ascot horse racing tips and had 8 winners in 13 races, including 6 out of 6 on Friday for a 10,690/1 accumulator that also collected 2 lines on the placepot.

Tuesday winners 1.17, 1.91, + 7 placed from 10 selections, Friday winners 5.0, 5.0 (also single win bet), 7.0, 4.33, 5.5 and 2.63 + 1 placed from 10 selections.

No selections Wednesday or Thursday, doubt any tipster anywhere matched that and all posted before racing on social media.

Not bad for £25 a month!

Right, now having blown my own trumpet and laughed at the Scottish Yid, let's move onto Spurs

Best defender in Italy

In 2020/21, Cristian Romero made more interceptions (96) than any other player in Serie A and was named the Best Defender in the Italian league.

Spurs bought him, well loan initially.

Cristian Romero averaged more tackles per game than any other centre-back (20+ apps) in Europe's top 5 leagues ln the 2021/22 season (3).

In 2021/22, Gleison Bremer made more interceptions (105) than any other player in Serie A and was named the Best Defender in the Italian league.

Spurs are currently in negotiations for him around the figure I originally quoted to you ages ago now, £29.97m (€35m).

Only Gleison Bremer (125) and José Luis Palomino (118) won more possessions in the middle third of the pitch than Joško Gvardiol (106) among centre-backs across Europe's top five leagues (Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1).

Midfield Tacklers

With the signing of Yves Bissouma from fellow Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion, Antonio Conte now has two of the top five players who have made the most tackles since 2019/20.

Big thanks to Squawka for producing the stats and original graphic, now amended.

Spurs Players For Sale

I have seen journalists telling you that Conte wants to keep Emerson Royal and that he is not for sale.

The Brazilian most definitely is for sale and there is plenty of clubs asking about him and making offers, but none to our liking yet.

Atlético Madrid tried to sign him when he was at Barcelona and with them liking lo Celso as well we might hear more of our interest in their players in the media.

You can expect the right-back to leave, along with Lo Celso, Ndombele, Rodon, Bergwijn and Winks, again, all of whom have plenty of interest in them, but not at the right prices yet.

Despite Conte's comment about him developing into a top centre-back if he sorts his confidence out, Davinson Sánchez is up for sale.

Monaco are not the only club interested in him, just like the others there is plenty of interest buy not at the right price yet.

You can see why you keep hearing we are looking for two centre-backs.

Agreement has been reached with Ajax for the transfer of Bergwijn according to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

The deal is worth £21.46m (€25m) + bonuses and Bergwijn will sign a 5-year contract. We were asking for £25.76m (€30m) for him.

Goalkeepers

Hugo Lloris is no spring chicken despite being in excellent form at the end of the season and we continue to search for his long term replacement.

We looked at Pierluigi Gollini and decided it wouldn't be him.

Spurs have been watching young Valencia goalkeeper and Georgian international Giorgi Mamardashvili.

The 21-year-old (22 in September) 6'4" (1.97m) tripple capped international is left-footed and has a contract with the La Liga club until 2024.

He only joined Valencia in January from Dinamo Tibilisi for £766,000 (€895,000) and Spanish clubs have to buy and sell to survive so there is a profit to be had, but if they keep him his value will only go one way, up.

Strikers

Tottenham are looking for a forward who can play across all three front positions in the way Son can or, arguably, the departing Bergwijn.

I believe Richarlison is our first choice, but Everton are asking silly money for him at the moment, with their troubled financial position in mind.

With all the talk of him not having made up his mind where to move, he has told Spurs that his choice is Spurs, if we can agree a sensible fee with the Toffees.

He does not want to stay at Everton and I think with better players around him he could be a very useful asset to us, as he knows where the goal is.

His record this season shows Richarlison would provide goal scoring cover for Son and Kane.

In 7 games as a left wing forward, he scored 5 goals and had 3 assists, while in 25 games as a centre-forward, he scored 6 goals and had 2 assists.

Certainly, with the greater number of chances we create those centre-forward figures would improve.

He does after all have 48 goals in 173 Premier League games (18 assists) and 14 international goals in 36 games (6 assists). For Brazil he has played all across the front three, with plenty of games on the right.

The dark horse is perhaps another Brazilian international (9 caps, 2 goals, 2 assists) 22-year-old (23 next February) Antony of Ajax Amsterdam.

Antony was born in São Paulo, Lucas Moura country.

In the season just finished, in 32 games, including 7 in the UEFA Champions League, he scored 12 goals and had 10 assists.

Ajax wanted Netherlands international Steven Bergwijn of course, so we will have discussed Antony with the Dutch club.

I keep seeing reports that Lautaro Martínez, yet an agent, Massimo Brambatti, has spoken to Spurs in the course of his business and was told by Conte's assistant over dinner that Spurs were happy with Kane, Son and Kulesevski as the main front three.

That doesn't leave a place for Martínez who wouldn't be happy being second fiddle, so I don't see anything happening with the Argentinian international.

Inter did suggest we make an offer for him, but as explained yesterday, they have been simply exploring the market, although they haven't told potential buyers that, which has rather pissed off a few clubs, including ourselves.

Martínez does have a desire to one day play in the Premier League, according to the press back home in Argentina.

CIES Football Observatory value him at £91.19m (€106.5m), the 11th most expensive player valuation in the world so I don't see him wanting to sit on a bench regularly.

Agent Massimo Brambati talking to TMW radio, feels that if Inter receive the right offer for Lautaro Martínez they will sell him as Inter must fund itself, president Zhang can not bring any money from China, the Chinese government don't allow it anymore.

Christian Eriksen

I'll put this in plain simple language.

We all know the honesty and integrity in football is a rare commodity and I agree with Simon Jordan on talkSPORT radio that Eriksen ought to have shown Brentford some loyalty for rescuing and resurrecting his career, but no.

Eriksen has told Totten ham that he is joining us after his holiday, vacation fir my American readers.

Since then he has spoken to Manchester United. Why?

If he has told us he is joining us what is he doing talking to someone else?

There is ITK out there, that I'm told is from a reliable source, that he has told Manchester United he will be joining them after his holiday.

Make of that what you will.

The club are very confident he is coning to Tottenham because he has told us so.

We'll see.

The very latest word yesterday, he's coming to us.

Defenders

Foot Mercato are claiming Tottenham have emerged as the front runners for Frankfurt defender Evan N’Dicka.

As already discussed we are trying to sign two centre-backs, one, Gleison Bremer, being right-footed and one being left-footed.

Alessandro Bastoni is our first choice but he is off the table at the moment with Inter now preferring to sell Stefan de Vrij and Milan Škriniar.

The 22-year-old (23 in August) Frenchman N'Dicka is a left-footed centre-back playing in the Bundesliga with only a year left on his contract.

He will therefore be available at a fee below his true market value were he on a longer contract.

Piero Hincapié is another left-footed centre-back playing in the Bundesliga for Bayer Leverkusen.

The 20-year-old (21 next January) is an Ecuadorian international (18 caps, 1 goal, 1 assist).

We were watching him this season and he wouldn't be an expensive option. He is highly-rated for his potential, but is young and not the finished article yet.

I'd suggest he would be the understudy to Ben Davies, rather than being the main left-sided centre-back.
