6 Spurs Finals Under Levy: It's Not Recruitment, It's Mentality
Spurs fans have to take their share of the blame, their lack of support all week shows they don't know how winning is achieved |
Why Spurs Keep Falling Short In Finals: The Brutal Truth Fans Don’t Want to Hear
Tottenham Hotspur have reached six major finals under Daniel Levy's stewardship.
We have won just one.
On paper, it’s easy to blame recruitment.
But that's the coward's way out...
That's how losing mentalities think.
Winning mentalities go beyond the superficial.
What if the players were good enough?
What if the real issue lies, not in the talent bought...
But in the environment they walk into?
In a world of instant judgment and relentless commentary...
Spurs players are facing more than just opposition on the pitch.
They’re facing us.
Like players have never had to do before.
The Social Media Storm Spurs Can't Escape
Modern players are not protected by the walls of the dressing room anymore.
They open their phones.
They scroll.
And they see what we all write.
They see the ridicule...
The sarcasm...
The accusations.
No other generation has had to deal with this.
It's a new added pressure/
You don't have to deal with this on the level they do.
Many fans justify this with, "If they can't take it, they shouldn't be professionals."
But let's be real.
They're human beings.
And the weight of millions of opinions can bend even the strongest of minds.
You think it doesn’t affect performance?
It absolutely does.
Confidence is fragile.
Belief is contagious.
But so is doubt.
So is negativity.
If you are trying to build a positive environment...
Which is a winning environment...
Then being bombarded daily...
Hourly..
Every minute...
Every second of the day...
Then that becomes an incredibly more difficult task.
A Club Still Playing by Old Rules
The problem is...
Neither the club...
Nor the fanbase...
Have truly adapted to this new communication era.
We now live in a world shaped by algorithms and urgency.
"I want everything now."
And if it doesn’t arrive instantly?
Outrage.
But not just that...
Anonymous hate.
Anonymous vile abuse.
We swipe...
We scroll...
And we slam.
We expect players to be elite warriors with no room for error...
While feeding them daily with anxiety-inducing negativity.
And the club?
Still treating mentality like a bolt-on instead of a foundation.
In to 20th century everything was different...
Fans were unseen, unheard.
Neither fan, nor club, has adapted to the 21st century.
Recruitment Isn't the Problem
Let’s give credit where it’s due.
Spurs have brought in genuinely talented players.
Many have succeeded before and after their time in North London.
But what happens while they’re here?
Too often...
They shrink.
Not because they lack ability.
But because the environment does not train the mind as much as the body.
And fans pummel them with negativity...
Meaning journalists pummel them with negativity.
It's an unhealthy environment...
Created by the fans.
Time to Prioritise Mentality
The biggest opportunity Spurs have right now isn’t in the transfer market.
It’s in sports psychology.
Imagine if Tottenham Hotspur made mental training a central pillar of the club.
If they used sports psychologists proactively...
Not just as damage repair after a slump.
If players were taught how to shut out the noise.
How to build internal belief regardless of outside chaos.
How to lift themselves and each other under pressure.
The difference between losing 2-0 in a final and winning 2-1?
That might just be it.
The Role Fans Can Play
Fans have more power than ever.
Your tweets matter.
Your comments shape narratives.
You can be part of the pressure (problem)...
Or part of the solution.
I choose to be part of the solution...
Do you?
Will you?
We, you, say we love the badge.
Then create an atmosphere that reflects it.
Are you truly a supporter if you don't create constructive support?
The THBN Wrap-Up
Tottenham don’t need to overhaul the squad.
The basis is there for the next 7-10 years.
And the club wants to build a conveyor belt beyond that.
Tottenham Hotspur needs to build a culture of belief.
Of resilience.
Of mental strength.
That starts at Hotspur Way.
But it extends to every post you make...
Every chant...
Every moment.
Because mentality wins finals.
And we all have a role to play in building it.
6 finals...
You are the missing link...
You are the common denominator.
You have not supported.
You have not created the right environment.
You have not created the right narrative.
It’s Not the Players - It’s You.
Proper Supporters Support

I know this has been a hobby-horse of yours for many, many years Clive, but even now it still has the capacity to break through boundaries.
As for the fans, most of humanity are whiners rather than winners, the numbers are clear in that respect. I'd love it if Spurs fans, as a group, could lift ourselves from that average state and some of us learn how to deal with adversity better; if we had a fan-base that learned to express their most positive thoughts and hold on mindfully to any negative ones.
