Spurs Transfer Update: Djed Spence Urged to Switch Nations, Vuskovic’s Future Revealed and Ratiu on the Radar
Tottenham Hotspur are making headlines on multiple fronts this week, with major updates involving Djed Spence’s international future, Luka Vuskovic’s next steps and a potential summer move for Andrei Ratiu.
Here's a roundup of the biggest Spurs stories.
Djed Spence Urged to Represent Kenya After England Snub
Tottenham Hotspur full-back Djed Spence has been urged to switch his international allegiance from England to Kenya by former Kenyan striker Taiwo Atieno.
Despite an impressive run of form in the Premier League, Spence was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s latest England squad.
Atieno, who himself made the switch from England to Kenya, believes Spence could inspire a new generation of Kenyan footballers.
He highlighted Spence’s dual heritage and his ability to become a central figure in a rising Kenyan team.
“Representing Kenya isn’t just a career choice – it’s a legacy decision,” Atieno told Flash Score. “He could be remembered not as one of many in England, but as one of one in Kenya.”
Spence has previously spoken of his dream to play for the Three Lions, but with fierce competition in his position, a switch could offer him a starring role and regular international football through tournaments like the African Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers.
To play for England he has plenty of improving to do, his positional play, his decision-making, his speed of recovery, his disinterest off the ball and underlying questions about his mentality for instance.
Tottenham’s Luka Vuskovic Set for Pre-Season Assessment
18-year-old Croatian defender Luka Vuskovic has impressed on loan at Westerlo and Tottenham Hotspur are ready to assess the centre-back in pre-season before deciding on his next move.
Westerlo vice-president Hasan Cetinkaya admitted that while the Belgian side would love to extend the loan, Spurs have other plans:
“Tottenham are very happy with the progress he has made here, and he will soon start preparing for the new season in London.”
Vuskovic, confident in his development, recently said:
“Without being arrogant, I have shown sufficient qualities. I feel ready for Tottenham.”
Spurs see Vuskovic as a long-term gem and this summer’s pre-season could be the moment he earns a place in Ange Postecoglou’s senior squad.
Spurs Face Transfer Battle for Romanian Right-Back Andrei Ratiu
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly in the race to sign Rayo Vallecano’s Andrei Ratiu, but face stiff competition from Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.
Ratiu, 26, has been one of La Liga’s standout full-backs and is said to have a £20.6m release clause.
Spurs are eyeing reinforcements despite having Pedro Porro, Djed Spence and Archie Gray on their books.
Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and several English clubs are also monitoring Ratiu, but Bayer Leverkusen are considered front-runners due to their impending need to replace Jeremie Frimpong.
Rayo sporting director David Cobeno remains confident but realistic:
“Whoever wants him will have to pay the clause. We hope he stays, but time will tell.”
Free Agent Jonathan Tah Not Joining The Lilywhites
I see some reports suggesting that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in free agent Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
My understanding, however, is that the 29-year-old German international has already agreed to join LaLiga giants Barcelona.
Their head coach Hansi Flick, who previously coached Tah in the German national team, is advocating for his signing.
Despite this, financial constraints have delayed a formal agreement with reports Barcelona have been caught fiddling the books to sign players essentially.
Spurs have reportedly approached Tah's representatives to discuss a potential transfer.
Liverpool have also shown interest in bolstering their defence with Tah, especially considering uncertainties surrounding their current center-backs.
Then there is Bayern Munich and Chelsea interest and plenty of others.
Comical Cristian Romero Talk
I told you last summer that Cristian Romero was leaving this summer and there is plenty of transfer talk about that now.
Real Madrid wanted him and it is no surprise that he wanted to join the biggest club in the world.
The reports of Aston Vill are fanciful as is the valuation placed on him by journalists of £35-£55 million. These sound like they have come from his agent quite frankly.
Other reports suggest that Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has told Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid that the Argentinian World Cup winner will cost £100m or that may have been €100m (£88.44m).
You can never tell with lazy reporters.
Either way, that's a more realistic figure with 2 years remaining on his contract.
Both Spanish clubs have sent scouts to watch the 26 year old.
Potential Pursuit of Juventus Striker Dušan Vlahović
Reports suggest that Tottenham Hotspur may pursue Juventus striker Dušan Vlahović in the upcoming transfer window.
The Serbian forward could be available for around £25 million as he enters the final year of his contract.
This potential move aligns with Spurs' search for attacking reinforcements.

Interest in Sunderland's Chris Rigg
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly targeting Sunderland's 17-year-old attacking midfielder Chris Rigg, although no concrete offer has yet been made.
Despite his youth, Rigg has impressed in the Championship, drawing comparisons to Jude Bellingham and recently scored a decisive goal for England U-19's in their European Championship qualifier against Portugal.
His future may depend on Sunderland's promotion prospects, with other clubs, including West Ham United, Manchester United, Everton and clubs from the German Bundesliga also expressing interest.

Whether it's legacy-defining international moves or shrewd transfer market plays, Spurs are positioning themselves for a decisive summer.
