Summer Transfer Window Day 7

Troy Parrot

Good morning once again and welcome to the Summer Transfer Window Day 7 with Tottenham Hotspur Blog News (THBN).

We'll start this day off by looking at our potential squad for next season as this is going to help you understand the problems we face and the juggling going on to find solutions, plus who has to go to

Tottenham 2022/23 Squad

This is how I see the squad shaping up for next season with possibly Tanganga going out on loan as I don't think we'll get a good enough offer for Sánchez.

However we have to be mindful of only having 17 non-homegrown players so I have listed them so you can see and work out, who we can and can not sign.

It's a juggling act.

I have pencilled in Cristian Eriksen and Weston McKennie, two non-homegrown players.

Of course if they do not end up signing then there are two non-homegrown spaces available and one of them could be used to potentially buy another centre-back.

Potential Tottenham 2022/23 Squad
GK - Lloris (1), Forster (HG), Austin (HG)
RWB - Spence (HG), Doherty (HG)
RCB - Romero (2), Tanganga (HG), Sánchez (3)
CB - Dier (4)
LCB - Davies (HG), CB Signing (5)
LWB - Sessegnon (HG), Perišić (6), LB Signing (7)
DM - Bentancour (8), Skipp (U-21 status)
CM - Højbjerg (9), McKennie (10)
AM - Eriksen (11), Bissouma (12)
RWF - Kulusevski (13), Moura (14)
CF - Kane (HG), Striker Signing (15)
LWF - Son (16), (New Signing) (17)

() Non-Homegrown
(HG) Homegrown
GK - Goalkeeper
RWB - Right Wing-Back
RCB - Right Centre-Back
CB - Middle Centre-Back
LCB - Left Centre-Back
LWB - Left Wing-Back
DM - Defensive Midfield
CM - Central Midfield
RWF - Right Wing-Forward
CF - Centre-Forward
LWF - Left Wing-Forward

Oliver Skip is Under-21 qualified and therefore does not have to be named in the 25 man Premier League squad, of which no more than 17 can be non-homegrown.

That would mean no place for 8 players:
  • Ndombele (1) - £26m, age 25, contract ends 2025
  • Lo Celso (2) - £26m, age 26, contract ends 2025
  • Emerson Royal (3) - £20m, age 24, contract ends 2026
  • Rodon (HG) - loan or £10m perhaps, age 24, contract ends 2025
  • Reguilón (4) - £26m, age 25 contract ends 2025
  • Winks (HG) - £20m+ age 26, contract ends 2024
  • Bergwijn (5) - £26m, age 24, contract ends 2025
  • Omoli (HG) - (Premier League 2 or loan)
Additionally:
  • Gollini - loan spell finished (6)
  • Carter-Vickers (HG) - sold to Celtic £6m + £4m potential add-ons
  • Jack Clarke (HG) - loan or sale, U-21 status

Left-footed centre-back Tobi Omoli is over 21 and therefore looks unlikely to be named in the 25 man squad making him unavailable for Premier League games.

His contract is up at the end of this month and as far as I'm aware, although we have offered him a contract, he hasn't signed it.

Jack Clarke isn't anywhere near the first-team squad standard so clearly won't be here next season.

You can see that for us to sign a second non-homegrown centre-back we would have to sell or loan out Davinson Sánchez to fit the non-homegrown homegrown criteria, hence why you have seen us being linked with homegrown centre-backs but not close to signing any.

They are contingency plans. If Sánchez stays then there isn't a squad place available without juggling somewhere else, such as not signing a left wing-back.

Romero could cover for Dier as the central centre-back or a new signing.

Once you see the potential problems you can get an idea of what signing will take longer than others and which transfer link is likely to have legs and which are more contingency planning.

It also gives you an idea of the juggling that Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici have to do and thus why we are linked with so many players for each position, to have options.

In all of this I have forgotten Sarr, he has to fit somewhere, non-homegrown, but he is an U-21 player so doesn't have to be named, if we keep him.

Sergio Reguilón

Fabio Paratici has offered Sergio Reguilón  to Juventus and is asking €30m (£25.73m) according to Italian media reports.

Barcelona are said to be interested in the Spaniard but they can't register players at the moment and have no money. They need to sell first and players are reluctant to leave as they won't get anywhere near the same wages elsewhere.

Tottenham are linked with several left-backs having already signed Ivan Perišić who can also play in a more advanced role.

Destiny Udogie

Back on 10th June THBN reported Spurs interest in 19-year-old (20 in November) Udinese left-back Destiny Udogie.

Both ourselves and Juventus have made enquiries but our approach and theirs have been rejected by the Serie A side.

Gleison Bremer

Despite an agreement between Turin and Gleison Bremer to sell him for a 'reasonable' fee, Torino want to cash in as much as they can suggests the Piedmontese newspaper Urbano Cairo.

The figure they say is being asked is €40m (£34.28m) and other reports say his agent is flying to London to meet with the Spurs hierarchy.

Tuttosport, another Italian outlet say Torino will ask Tottenham for €50m (£42.84m) and that Tottenham will open with a €30m (£25.71m) + bonuses.

However I don't think his agent is, I believe Davide Vagnati the Torino sporting director if flying to London in the next few days, which I would suggest is even better news.

Nicolò Zaniolo

Nicolò Zaniolo is constantly linked with Tottenham but I can tell you the 22-year-old (23 in July) Roma and Italy attacking-midfielder is only interested in staying in Italy.

Transfer Snippets

Aston Villa, Leeds and Tottenham are said to be in tussle for teenage West Ham forward Sonny Perkins. @JacobSteinberg on Twitter

Tottenham are interested in former Everton player Gerard Deulofeu according to Italian media outlet Corriere dello Sport.

This is a report I have seen elsewhere too.

As reported on 2nd June Ireland U-19 goalkeeper Josh Keeley has completed his move to Tottenham from FAI Cup Winners St. Patricks Athletic. The 19-year-old (20 next May) would have been out of contract in November.

Pierluigi Gollini

Pierluigi Gollini had this to say about his time at Tottenham to Rai Sport:

"I played with some of the best players in the world. In front of me I had Lloris, one of the best goalkeepers around, and for me it was a formative year. I also saved a penalty against Wolverhampton in the Carabao Cup."

Troy Parrot

Young Spurs and Republic of Ireland striker Troy Parrot is in demand in the Championship next season.

  • Swansea City
  • QPR (been talking to him for months)
  • Luton Town
  • Middlesbrough (was discussed as a possible part of the Djed Spence deal)
  • Preston North End

Axel Disasi

Monaco defender Axel Disasai has been on the red and white radar (Atletico Madrid) for some time now and will have to guard against competition from Tottenham report the Spanish publication Marca.

The 24-year-old (25 in March) right-footed centre-back is another on our centre-half list we may or may not need later in the window.

Yves Bissouma

In the 2 days I have been away from things it would appear we have reached agreement with Brighton for Yves Bissouma and reached agreement with the Mali international midfielder.

Yves-Bissouma

That will do you for now folks, enjoy your day and hurry up with the football.
