Latest Tottenham Transfer Talk

Hello fellow positive Spurs fans, another quick Tottenham Transfer Talk update following on from Transfer Deadline Looms and Rennes Eyeing Defensive Duo.

Homegrown and club-trained central defender Japhet Tanganga, Tosin Adarabioyo of Fulham, our own young attacking midfielder Alfie Devine and Argentinian midfielder Giovanni Lo Celso are the subject of today's Spurs Chat.

Japhet Tanganga

The age-old story of players refusing to leave at the moment, we had it with Harry Winks for years, now it's felt we have it with Japhet Tanganga who is tuning down offers.

There is a scenario where Inter might want him if another target doesn't come off and one train of thought is that he is waiting to see if that materializes, if not he wants the Premier League.

Inter want to buy 17-year-old Benjamin Pavard of Bayern Munich and are having to ait for the Bundesliga side to find a replacement.

If they can't then Pavard will stay and join Inter on a free transfer next summer.

If Inter do decide to take Tanganga they will ask for him on loan for yhe season with no intention of keeping him, while obviously, Spurs prefer a sale. The 24-year-old centre-backs contract runs out in 2025.

He is another who has turned down Saudi Arabia and Turkey, Beşiktaş I believe.

Even as a squad player, he won't get the same wages elsewhere, add in a transfer fee and he becomes too expensive for many a would-be suitor.

Regular readers will know Giovanni Lo Celso was unhappy at Spurs but suspended his desire to leave while a new manager assessed his squad.

Giovanni Lo Celso

However, Gio has not played in the first two games and is not happy sitting on the bench. Postecoglou doesn't want to keep players that aren't totally 100% behind what he is trying to achieve, in the manner he is trying to achieve it, which is important as I have written in various articles about player mentality, so a loan move is looking likely again.

Lo Celso doesn't ant to sit on a bench and play when Maddison is injured, he wants to be playing every week, he is a World Cup winner after all.

La Gazzetta dello Sport write:

"A negotiation that stalled over a month ago because the Azzurri were asking for the loan of the player that the English only want to sell. It's a shame that Lo Celso - despite another open discussion for a return to Betis in Seville - is still in London, but Tottenham no longer consider him functional to the team.

"If the situation remained like this, perhaps Napoli could try again the blitz on the market gong and conclude an operation, also in this case, not easy given that we are talking about a player who has a salary of over four million net per season."

Barcelona boss Xavi is pushing the Spanish giants to sign the Argentinian midfielder, especially now that Pedri is injured. He has asked them to have another go at signing him.

Tosin Adarabioyo

Let's add a different perspective to the Tosin Adarabioyo situation.

  1. Adarabioyo wnts to play every week
  2. Monaco wants to sign him
  3. Fulham want to sell to Spurs

Why?

My take on this is that Fulham want Tottenham players in part exchange. I presume Tottenham don't want a straight 'cash' deal but want to offload players and it helps if a club we are buying from wants to take them.

Perhaps Fulham want Eric Dier, perhaps they want Japhet Tanganga, perhaps they want Ryan Sessegnon, there could be a host of our players that could suit them and keep the cash payments down.

I'd suggest Fulham want our players but don't want to pay for them so including them in a deal helps the Craven Cottage side.

Adarabioyo though would be behind Micky Van de Ven this season, until we get back into Europe and have more games under our belt each season.

It'll be a question of Ange Postecoglou selling his development plan for the player to the player and if he has chosen Monaco, because that plan will have been put to him already, then what else is there to say.

It is Fulham who are trying to convince their centre-back to join Spurs, rather than Ligue 1 Monaco.

Alfie Devine

Alfie Devine is off to Port Vale on loan for the season. It will give the 19-year-old attacking midfielder much-needed game time every week in proper competition, against men, where points are at stake, in front of a crowd and the pressure that goes with it.

He'll be playing the likes of Portsmouth, Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County, Ipswich Town, Charlton Athletic, Bolton Wanderers and Bristol Rovers, all of whom have graced the top flight at some stage.

Wages

There is three-quarters of a million pounds being paid out in wages for players we don't want and who have thus far refused to sign a deal with other clubs to move on.

This dictates what we can pay new signings, wages have to be cleared, Tanguy Ndombele is our biggest earner!
