Summer Transfer Window Day 9

Summer Transfer Window Day 9

It's a great transfer window to be a Spurs fan isn't it, with the club snapping up players ready for our pre-season.

Enjoy your Summer Transfer Window Day 9 read from Tottenham Hotspur Blog News (THBN).

To get the best out of this transfer window and to stay clued up, you need to read this post for an overall explanation, Summer Transfer Window Day 7, then read this post where you'll get an Italian round-up.

The Tottenham Hotspur summer transfer window thus far:
  • Fraser Forster 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
  • Ivan Perisic 🇭🇷
  • Yves Bissouma 🇲🇱
Total spent: £25 million + up to £10m add-ons

Do not forget we have Cristian Romero and Dejan Kulusevski to pay for as well, when their loans are converted to permanent transfers.

Fabio Paratici has certainly taken a different approach than all our other Football Directors, under whatever guise, and the results of his different approach are being felt at Spurs.

The anti-Levy smattering have been quick to argue that Daniel Levy still controls everything, that no signing is made without him signing it off, but I don't see them giving Levy any praise, if that was the case, now with people coming through the door early.

The art of management is to surround yourself with experts in the areas you are not expert in and give them the responsibility to do their job.

You, as their boss, receive the credit because it is you who has surrounded yourself with the requirements to fulfil your position.

Your workforce will say you don't deserve promotion because you don't do anything, which demonstrates why they he/she is the chief and they are the Indians.

The boss understands management and running a business operation, they don't.

You see the same thing with pro-Levy and anti-Levy fans because there is no doubt he has built the club to a point where we can now afford to invest in the team, be that in transfer fees or wages.

Mauricio Pochettino had us ahead of schedule, so far ahead of schedule that we couldn't afford, off the field, to financially sustain that level on the field.

income must be virtually guaranteed, not here today, gone tomorrow, hence the need to build a sustainable business that can afford to fund on the field improvements.

Daniel levy sets a standard, he sets a level and gives you a chance to achieve the level he demands. If you can't you get replaced, just as there are different qualities of player, there are different qualities of coach, of Director of Football, of every job.

We can see that with our recruitment this window as opposed to previous windows, even without spending huge amounts on every player.

Tottenham are in a happy place right now.

I don't know what Manchester United have offered Christian Eriksen but it may well have turned his head and he forgo his desire for Champions League football for the UEFA Europa League instead, which is why we speeded along the purchase of Yves Bissouma.

As far as we were aware he was going to sign with us when he had returned from holiday.

He had given us assurances that he had chosen to join Spurs, hence why he was included in the squad article 2 days ago and why there was confidence from journalists.

Presumably they have offered him a huge wage but I'm not fussed as I didn't think we should sign him anyway.

I informed you a while back that Djed Spence had chosen Tottenham and that an outline transfer had been agreed with Middlesbrough so he will be another through the door when that completes, which we expect to be next week.

Back in January you may remember I informed you all that Conte had been promised 6 signings in the first two windows. If Christian Eriksen signs that will be six, but there are more to come and obviously plenty of outgoings to organise too.

We have several forwards lined up, Paratici style, which have all been decided with Conte, so he'll get one that he wants, whether that will be his first choice we wait to see.

Then we can look forward to some pre-season football and a South Korea tour that should see huge support with the best player they have ever produced, Son, in our ranks.

London Derbies

OK, let's turn our eyes to Italy for an update on the situation and shopping there.

Twitter is full of one dimensional people asking why we are bothering with Lautaro when he doesn't want to leave Inter. Read on folks, Škriniar said the same thing, although I haven't seen a quote from Martinez, just journalists one dimensional perceptions.

PSG have upped their offer for Milan Škriniar to £42.68 million (€50m), which has been turned down by Inter.

The Italians were asking for £59.76 million (€70m) but have lowered their asking price to between £51.22m (€60m) to £55.49m (€65m) plus bonuses.

Škriniar will move if Inter accept an offer for him, otherwise he has agreement on a contract renewal, as he is happy to stay, just as he has publicly said.

Just goes to show you must look at what clubs, players and agents say and ask yourself what is the underlying reason for saying it.

Despite what Škriniar has said publicly, he has also agreed a salary with PSG of £5.98 million (€7.0m) net for 4 or 5 years.

Nikola Milenković might be there target for replacing him.

Inter Milan have offered Chelsea £5.98 million (€7.0m) for the loan of Romelu Lukaku which could be increased to between £8.54 million (€10m) and £10.24m million (€12m).

Further discussions have taken place with Paulo Dybala and a deal is expected to be agreed.

The line of Inter is that despite the arrivals of Dybala and Lukaku, Lautaro Martínez is to stay, but that might just be rhetoric to try and maximise his price, as would appear to be the case with Škriniar.

You can see where we are coming from in wanting to open discussions next week about what feasibility of signing the Argentinian attacker.

He could be expendable. which would solve their financial issues for this summer.

It is clear Inter have been suggesting to clubs to bid for certain players, it was they who suggested we look at Martinez again, so they could asses what they would get for players and how much it would cost to replace them.

A bit like Paratici, they then decide which ones to go for so while we are negotiating in good faith for players they suggest are available, often they are not available!

As reported previously, Inter couldn't buy Bremer at the price they wanted so wouldn't let Bastoni leave.

AC Milan continues to negotiate with Lille for the purchase of Tottenham linked Renato Sanches. They have offered £8.54 million (€10m), Lille want double so a deal at around £11.95 million (€14m) + bonuses is possible.

Wednesday's edition of Corriere dello Sport reported on Spurs linked Gerard Deulofeu. Napoli have approached the Udinese striker and a deal will be struck despite the attentions of Real Sociedad, Villarreal and Tottenham.

The fee will be between £12.81 million (€15m) and £15.37 million (€18m) with £2.56 million (€3m) annual wages, approx £49K (€57.6K) a week.

Tomorrow I'll bring you a further transfer update on Spurs ins and outs.
