Conte Construction Begins

Conte Construction Begins

Conte-Construction-Begins

“The positional of technical director is one for the long term. Marc [Overmars] set things in motion a few years ago. He did this from a certain vision, he introduced structure and managed. It’s started to grow and I don’t think the process is over yet."

Overmars has been Director of Football at Ajax since 2012.

Fabio Paratici is our technical director, although we call him a managing director of football, but this is the point, he doesn't approach the job with a how can we win something this season approach.

How long therefore, will it take Fabio Paratici to turn around Spurs fortunes?

Less time now Antonio Conte can see our vision, has been approached a second time before anyone else could grab him and joined Spurs.

If Spurs didn't have a vision, he wouldn't be here.

That vision, as we all know, is to build the club to compete with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City, both on and off the field.

The off the field pays for the on-field and the infrastructure to generate that money is in place.

Sugar Daddies are not allowed under Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules however much a section of our fans think they are.

Rafa Benitez at Everton has said his club can't spend big in the January transfer window because FFP limit billionaire owner Farhad Moshiri from injecting more money.

Read that again people, the owner can't give money, FFP stops it.

A club outside of European football can have £30m a year investment from the owner, plus anything for infrastructure but owners loan money (usually with an interest rate attached like Arsenal) for building work, they don't give it.

Manchester City, PSG were funded through sponsorship deals, yes dodgy inflated ones, but still sponsorship deals, they couldn't just give money.

Why are Newcastle looking to appoint Eddie Howe? Because investment is limited and they have to bring money in through sponsorship deals and the club chairmen all want a crackdown on 'family friends' sponsorship.

Tottenham have built the business to generate income and it's sustainable, it arrives from more than football and it now allows for investment into the playing staff (wages are a big factor) over a sustained period.

Antonio Conte can see that side of Spurs and acknowledges the importance of it. He wouldn't be here without it, he wouldn't be here if we were still at White Hart Lane, the old stadium.

The vision on the field was handed over to Fabio Paratici to build.

I found his pre Vitesse press conference to be informative, he said he sacked Nuno, it was his decision.

The club then acted quickly to resolve a problem rather than wait until the end of the season when they could have sacked Nuno without any compensation.

Daniel Levy penny pinching, obviously not.

Nuno was Paratici's choice of head coach, Levy merely hired the Managing Director of Football's choice.

Conte wants a vision on the field, a vision every player will have to buy into if they are to produce their best.

He and Paratici know where they want to take the club, they know there is a regular stream of money available from the infrastructure already built.

Everyone starts again with a clean slate.

Will we now see the reemergence of Harry Winks?

His display against Vitesse was encouraging, he looked revitalised.

His mentality looked to have changed to a more positive one, which makes things possible, a negative mentality restricts.

Opportunity is grasped by positive mindsets, it isn't grasped by negative ones.

If you doubt your own ability, how are you going to produce top performances, you can't.

What changes will we now see, Harry Kane staying more central and not dropping deep so much?

Son not taking corners anymore, why have a goalscorer hidden on the sideline where he can't score from?

Will Kane be taken off free kicks, because let's face it, he can't score any. Will we now get a specialist free-kick taker?

Will Harry Winks re-overtake Oliver Skipp?

Will Dele Alli be returned to the attacking midfielder role?

I saw Glen Johnson on Sky Sports saying it is down to Dele to show in training he wants it, not wait to be picked to try and show it.

The training ground is where you prove yourself, game time is simply a reward where you have to prove yourself again, this time under pressure.

Will Tanguy Ndombele be revitalised now he has a head coach he might consider equal to his own inflated ego?

I ask because against Vitesse, down to 10 men, he sprinted, yes sprinted, something never seen before, to close down a man.

I'll repeat that because it is so astounding, off the ball, he sprinted to close a man down. OK so the man was on the half way line, we were defending and Tanguy had to run forward not back, but he sprinted.

Does he now think the club has ambition, does he think the head coach can make a difference? Something has changed in his head because, Tanguy don't sprint.

Will we now get the best out of Reguilón's crossing ability.

Is the attacking ability of Emerson going to be seen to greater effect?

Will we now see the club target a left-footed centre-back, something I have called for since before Vertonghen left.

Will Dier move to third choice in the summer?

Will Davinson Sánchez reemerge?

Is Joe Rodon finished or will he be developed as a fourth choice? I'm not sure he is good enough myself.

Will Conte unlock Giovani Lo Celso, will he finally now kick-on?

Lot's of question to answer and the next few games will be interesting in terms of selection and the approach of the players when they do get on the field.

Looking forward to it.

Because of our infrastructure, the future is bright.

Well that's it for this morning's offering folks.
