A game that had everything, that had so many twists and turns, not a game that could be predicted before the start.

A flying start and after minutes Moura has a simple final through ball that yet again he over hits. He simply does this far too often and what he does well doesn't make up for it.

Then we see the best of Moura, combines well with Kane for his goal, then in our defensive third he gives the ball away by our box.

Again, he gives the ball away far too often, usually in the middle third, to make up for his inconsistency and poor final ball.

We saw a revitalised Harry Kane who with a top quality head coach is now going to return to the Harry Kane we know and want.

He was a different player today, showing mentality is everything, without the right mentality you don't produce your best.

We were passing quicker at the back, playing faster football and went into a 3-0 lead.

Our lazy defensive mentality again came to the fore to bring Vitesse back into the game.

I keep saying Skipp isn't good enough yet and tonight he didn't read the game, his passing was poor, his passing choices put us under pressure we didn't need to be under and he sometimes takes himself out of the game with wrong decisions.

I have never seen two players sent off who don't know they have been sent off, both lying on the floor holding their heads.

Down to 10 men we are hanging on defending for our lives in panic mode.

We survive and they have a man sent off to bring us back into the game, then their keeper comes running out and turns his arm into the flight of the ball to get himself sent off. giving us the upper hand.

A strange game of football, a typical Tottenham game of football, have it sewn up and try to give it away by relaxing and deciding to defend what we have.

Not sure how I feel after that game but the positives to take were the three points, Harry Kane wanting to play again, the attacking intent and faster first time passing of the ball.

  1. I saw some faster passing of the ball. I didn't see too much of the revitalised HK but I did see that in all the team for the first thirty minutes. Like Ndombele I believe we need to be aware when Lucas (or Tanguy) have the ball and be ready to pick up the pieces if they lose it. Both players are confident on the ball and offer some exciting paths through their midfield so I'm happy to see them continuing to be adventurous - but with the understanding from others that such a path is always risky and to be ready to win the ball back if they lose it - or at least slow down any quick break so the team can form a shape more appropriate for being out of possession. On the other hand Lucas certainly needs to improve the quality of his non-dribbling play. A better pass to HK in the first minute would have got us going even sooner.

    It was certainly a bizarre game. It was back to the Tottenham of old in that we were cruising and then handed the game back. Very polite but not what…
  2. Excuse my maths :-( I meant first third and the other two thirds rather than first sixth and the other five sixths.

    Another point I'd like to make, for all those who claim that the stadium is just DL's vanity project, is that listening to Antonio Conté explain his reasons for coming to Spurs it's very clear that the stadium and the training facilities we have convinced him that the club are serious about the project of getting bigger & bigger and competing at the highest level. Would he have come if we'd still been at WHL? I suspect not.
