Paris United reports that Tottenham have initiated talks with Lyon over 21-year-old (22 in December) central midfielder Tanguy Ndombèlé, as have Juventus. Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City are also said to be following him.

The Frenchman is under contract at Amiens until 2020, he is only on loan at Lyon who have an option to buy him for £6.99 million (€8m). He is one of a number of central midfielders we are looking at to replace the departing Mousa Dembélé and he has reportedly turned down French champions PSG.

Ndombèlé heads the key forward passes statistics, Dele Alli is 9th in Europe, perhaps Gareth Southgate should take note and Christian Eriksen is 15th, just above Lionel Messi.

I have seen a valuation of £13.12 million (€8m) placed on him, which, if right, is dirt cheap in today's game. He is expected to be a star midfielder and has had an exceptional season on loan at Lyon.

His season-long heat map shows the areas he covers and clearly shows him to be a Mousa Dembélé replacement, rather than a Victor Wanyama replacement and his dribbling statistics from a previous graphic suggests that too.


Highly thought of, Tanguy Ndombèlé looks like a player who could develop into a commanding figure in midfield. He has been called the new Pogba and the new Michael Essien.

  1. Not sure that N'Dombèlé being called the new Pogba is that complimentary given the latter's recent performances...come to think how many of our French intake have impressed so far?
    There's a good reason reason why French players are cheap.......
    p.s. just looked at the new stadium cams...no workers on site...so don't be surprised if we spend another season at Wembley...but given our attendance figs there and what the squad (coaches included) achieved...pas soucis.
