You must be disappointed not to have come away with at least a point?

Yes, very disappointing because we came back into the game and make the equalizer. Minimum must come into halftime or the break with this 1-1and then you can maybe adapt your game a little bit, your shape a little bit.

But I didn't change immediately because I thought we need to have a good rest defense. They have skill, quality, with Son, with Kane and with Erickson for a counter-attack and I was right.  It was exactly what happens, but the way we defended the second goal was simply not good enough.

And if you're not good enough to defend this goal then you're one down and then you must work against this 10 man. 

We did it, I think okay for 25 minutes in the second half, this was good. We created chances, we had a few big ones with Maya's (Yoshida) header and a big save from the goalkeeper, congratulation, don't know many goalkeepers will make this save.

We had a few ones and then in the last 20 minutes when normally the opponent gets a little bit tired, we stopped being calm on the ball, waiting for the right moment. We gave the ball away too easy, the decisions get worse and worse, my subs were not really making my game better so finally the last 15 minutes it wasn't enough to know to get something here.

I think we did well, then changed a few things because the opponent was also a little bit in a different shape than we were expecting. We were trying to be very offensive, early pressing sometimes. 

We had a few good ball wins and a few good chances in the first 10-15 minutes but after their very easy first goal yeah, I think it became very difficult for us when they play with 11 men.

You started with a back four and changed to a back three.

I think the reason was the opponent started with a diamond playing today, we wanted to bring our fullbacks, our wingers very high to press their fullbacks very early. I think it was positive at times, we did very well against Rose and then we had a good few good ball wins, but you can also see when you change the shape that it's not really perfect in that moment.

But the goal we conceded, it was not really better shape. It was a shot you can sure make a save, now assessment, that's a pity.

You had momentum last season but you can't be happy with the start this season?

I think we cannot be happy because of the chance to take something here will not be that big again. Today the momentum was normally on our side, we were one man extra, we had the equalizer so couldn't get any easier normally, but to be that clinical then I think this is a step of development we have to take because we are not, obviously not, cool enough to finish such a game and this is for sure something we have to work on.

Why did you start with one shape and change it?

We try to have a little bit more pressure with our wingers earlier because we knew Spurs are also playing a different shape and that gives you that moment. We are expecting a 4-3-3 and they were a little bit playing with the diamond and to keep a number 10. 

Finally this was the reason why we tried to switch a little bit more man to man, with us three centre-backs and sending our wingers higher to press the fullbacks earlier.

It worked very well for the first 10-15 minutes but after the first goal they show that they have the quality to find the answers for what we try to give them a problem.
