Morning Tottenham Transfer Talk from THBN

Tottenham Training Kit available on 18 July

Morning folks and it's a lovely sunny day here down on the coast. Right, questions abound so I'll give a roundup of the situation with transfers at the moment and club news.

Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola talking about Tottenham:
"It is incredible how strong they are, they are the most physical team I have faced in my career. Tottenham is one of the teams I admire the most for the way they play, they just never give up."

The last post and rather popular post was on the imminent arrival of Giovani Lo Celso.
Giovani Lo Celso Imminent

Before the transfer window fans were complaining. It has always been pretty obvious, indeed common sense, that Daniel levy would continue the clubs growth with investment in the team, now that we have a better financial footing.

The last figures showed us just £10m behind Arsenal in income and our continued participation in the UEFA Champions League is essential to continue that growth and their decline.

Mauricio Pochettino stated last season more than once that he would love to win a domestic Cup, but winning the Premier League or Champions League would progress the club further, domestic cups are ego trophies.

We all want to win trophies, not just one though, but trophies regularly and thus the club business had and has to be built to pay for that, owners can't under FFP.

There is no denying Daniel Levy has built the club and grown us financially to be able to compete on a more level playing field, although it isn't level yet. That means business growth must continue.

Last summer we tried to sign specific players and failed, we didn't buy lesser lights just for the sake of it, as the fans were clamouring.

We reached a UEFA Champions League final and that has given the club a greater standing and more 'pull' with players in the game.

Add that to a determination not to miss out of the players we want this summer has meant it is going to be a difficult and busy one for Daniel Levy and his team.

Mauricio Pochettino wants to build a Premier League winning team. he wants to overhaul the squad and bring in better players (who are still prospects to improve). You can not do that all in one go, it simply costs too much so some we would like to move on will stay, more are going next summer and there has to be a certain amount of wheeling and dealing to improve the squad within a budget.

We have bought our number one priority Tanguy Ndombélé and our second priority, Giovani Lo Celso will be announced soon. Whichever journalist wrote Bruno Fernandes was our main target was merely guessing and guessing wrong. He was an alternative we were exploring and were never close to signing.

He is too expensive, coming from a second tier league and Nicolò Zaniolo has been the preferred, if more unattainable target. It's the agent if Fernandes who has been pushing for a move, rather than clubs chasing Fernandes.

I will repeat that Giovani Lo Celso joining ing is NOT dependent on Christian Eriksen leaving. He wants to, he told Pochettino at the beginning of the season and is doing all he can to get a move without upsetting the boat.

As you know, Paul Pogba is Real Madrid's preferred target, well Zinedine Zidane anyway, but Perez seems determined to have Eriksen. Their valuation is not the same as our valuation though so we have the stand off and hard negotiation with both sides wanting a deal done quickly.

There are very good relations between Spurs and Real Madrid, despite fans views and Daniel Levy is trying to get two players plus cash, which will potentially allow us to replace Kieran Trippier.

We need a backup striker and have asked for Mariano Diaz to be included in the deal, a young striker with promise who has a very good season in Ligue 1 when on loan at Lyon. We also want Dani Ceballos in the deal.

He is a player we asked about last summer and who Perez offered in an Eriksen deal this time. Getting both players strengthens the midfield and gives that much need help for Kane, while not actually costing us anything.

We would like to sell Victor Wanyama, we will listen to offers for Eric Dier and Erik Lamela, although I doubt the latter two will depart this window in my opinion.

With increased numbers and ability this season, we should see Dele Alli return to the more advanced role where he performs best and is a greater scoring threat. Too many time he had to fill in in deeper positions last season.

Ryan Sessegnon has a hamstring injury so signing him before we start pre-season on 12 July isn't essential, hence no rush. His brother, who is a right-back, will be loaned back to Fulham.

Any other business is dependent upon a Christian Eriksen sale and what we can raise with player sales, plus moving on a player in the position we want to buy, otherwise we unbalance the squad. Therefore Trippier has to leave and we have to raise some money before we can buy a replacement right-back.

The business we want is being done early, while the business we would like will take longer. It will happen when we can afford it.

Will Kyle Walker-Peters be able to step up to the plate in pre-season? On what I saw last season, I'd say he isn't going to be good enough for the level we would want a player to be at. He is a step down, not up, from Trippier, but we might be forced to have to rely on him. Has he improved enough, I have my reservations.

Centre-back. We will buy if Toby Alderweireld leaves, we want him to leave so we get a fee for him. There is a contract offer on the table but he could just run down his contract and leave for free so he picks up a larger signing on fee at his next club.

If he goes, we want Joachim Andersen, who is fully aware of the situation and the circumstances in which he could join Tottenham. Is he, therefore, waiting to see if the opportunity arises? I think he is and will sign for Lyon if and when he finds out whether Alderweireld is staying or not.

Roma and Inter are the two clubs asking about Toby at the moment. Roma don't have Champions League football, they are in the Europa League, while Inter Milan are in the Champions League.

The club have announced that the new training kit is available, or will be, on 18 July for the many of you asking about kits.

What else, Alfie Whiteman is the third goalkeeper this season, Danny Rose is negotiating a new contract but is another who is available for the right price. He is no spring chicken anymore.

Well, I have rattled on long enough, time for another cuppa.
