THBN Tottenham Transfer Talk - Trippier and Alderweireld

Spurs want to sell Trippier and Alderweireld

I have been asked about Toby Alderweireld and Kieran Trippier and so I'll tackle them in this post.

Before I get into those, a reminder that you'll find THBN Articles - Further Reading below this article which are not just a regurgitation of news most the other sides deliver. I do look into things, I do hear things.

My last article talked about Christian Eriksen.

Kieran Trippier

Kieran wants to leave, I have no doubt partly due to the abuse he receives from Spurs fans than in my view have affected his performances.

Any supporter that abuses a Spurs player during a season isn't a Spurs supporter because they are acting against the best interests of the club they purport to support.

Kieran wants to go and we are actively looking to help him find another club, that tells you everything.

Napoli offered £16.15 million (€18m - $20.24m) for the England right-back but Daniel Levy is seeking £26.92 million (€30m - $33.73m). Another Italian side Juventus have offered £17.96 million (€20m - $22.48m).

Trippier is a 28-year-old (29 in September) and while he has superb crossing ability, he has made far too many incorrect decisions over the last season and doesn't have the speed to recover his position.

We play with high full-backs who are basically attackers we defend, not defenders who attack.

We may replace him if we can sell him. It depends upon funds, if they are there then he will be replaced, if not them Serge Aurier will be the first choice with Kyle Walker-Peters as his backup.

Money will depend largely on the amount we get for Christian Eriksen, although selling Josh Onomah (I hear a deal has already been agreed with a Championship side), Cameron Carter-Vickers, Vincent Janssen (deal agreed with Betis but they have another target too), Georges-Kevin N'koudou and if we can Victor Wanyama would add to the coffers.

Toby Alderweireld

As for Toby Alderweireld, well, he is happy at Spurs. The issues surrounding him are about his representatives and his father.
As you all know, probably, we offered a deal worth a total of £165,000-a-week last summer. That deal was never signed, his Dad was banned from the club and the behaviour of the representatives was not professional. The club fell out with them.

There is an offer on the table for Toby but the feeling is he will run down his contract so his advisors can get a lump sum signing on fee next summer and demand a higher wage with no transfer fee.

We would prefer to sell him this window and replace him with 23-year-old (24 next May) former Danish Under-21 international Joachim Andersen, given this is Jan Vertonghen's last season at Spurs.

We are going to need to replace both centre-backs next summer probably so we would prefer to replace one now and Andersen is the man plenty of clubs want who we have been watching for a long time.

You can expect us to be linked with plenty of centre-backs over the coming season. We have Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth so we would need two more.

Two Italian clubs have asked about Alderweireld, who is clearly waiting to see what offers come in for him before finalising what he is going to do.
