Hugo Lloris

Hugo Lloris

Hugo-Lloris

You'll recall we were linked with a goalkeeper earlier in this month, a certain Thomas Strakosha of Italian Serie A side Lazio,

We have Hugo Lloris and Paulo Gazzaniga in our ranks, so why were we looking at another keeper, especially one that would certainly not be a number three?

The will recall hearing that a club from France were taking an interest in Hugo Lloris and the club were just being responsible in case his head was turned and he left for his home country.

There was a story suggesting the Ligue 1 side was, in fact, Nice but there have constantly been stories linking him with PSG every window. He might return there one day but he has a great relationship with Pochttino and is very happy at Spurs.

No matter who the player, Spurs will constantly be monitoring players in every single position. A player can move at any time really (during the windows obviously) but can break a leg and be out for a season too. You have to always have plans in place for such an eventuality.

If there is any chance of Hugo Lloris leaving, then the club must have identified targets and clearly, the Lazio keeper is one of them we are keeping an eye on.

For those of you wondering, yes Hugo Lloris di speak to Tanguy Ndombélé about joining Spurs. It doesn't hurt being the national captain when a player is interested in joining your club.

The deal will get over the line, despite the latest hitch, because he is Mauricio Pochettino's number one priority. Replacing Dembélé's ability to break the game line was missing last season which slowed our play down and made creating chances more difficult.

Dembélé could handle the rigours of the Premier League any more and his departure left a big hole we didn't fill with Harry Winks injured again. Ndombélé will make a big difference and, I suspect, return us to be challenging for the title again.

A summer break isn't going to have done Hugo Lloris any harm either and I would expect him to return to top form and cut out the mistakes he was making last season.

While we are discussing goalkeeper, 27-year-old (28 in January) Paulo Gazzaniga has developed from the questionable keeper we bought from Southampton and is a prime example of how goalkeepers mature later than outfield players.

There were some suggesting he should replace Lloris as the number one, that was never going to happen and Lloris came into his own in the latter stages of our Champions League run.

Our number three for 2019/20 is 20-year-old (21 in October) Alfie Whiteman.
