Levy Pochettino agree LB & CB needed
2 min read
Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino met this week to discuss the Tottenham squad, what the requirements were, what the priorities were, who can go and who is to stay.
Pochettino feels that the squad is imbalanced and that needs to be rectified this summer although nothing is expected to happen before the World Cup.
Players involved in Brazil will be having a holiday afterwards so new signings may not necessarily miss pre-season with teammates. Of course that depends upon how fast deals can be done and who on the list of players Pochettino has discussed with Levy can be obtained.
As you would expect they have prioritised each player in each position and will start work at the top working their way down the list until they can secure someone. In such circumstances clubs look for a certain type of player so each will have similar attributes.
Tomorrow evening I will bring you an article that explains how we select transfer targets, not exclusively, but it will explain why we seem to have the same targets as Liverpool all the time.
If you asked Spurs fans to name the two positions that are priorities to buy for they would say left-back and centre-back. Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino you will be pleased to hear concur, they are the two most important positions to sort out.
Now whether that means a replacement for Danny Rose or someone to challenge him and therefore strengthen the cover is not yet clear. Danny Rose is to be offered an improved contract so buying competition for him is favourite. We will have to wait and see how Rose reacts as prior to last season he said he wanted to play and would leave if he wasn't.
Next season Spurs again have to play a lot of games, possibly more than anyone else and probably more than any of their rivals for a top four finish so competition for each place is vital. We can't continue with the situation that Kyle Walker plays every game because there isn't anyone else as he has done for the past couple of years with Naughton filling in at left-back.

The centre-back department Pochettino has highlighted as needing strengthening. Vlad Chiriches is seeking a move to Italy where his agent feels his game will better suited, having failed to adapt to the Premier League.
Younes Kaboul hasn't proved his fitness and has only ever given Spurs one good season which he can't live off forever. Jan Vertonghen has said he will be staying and Michael Dawson is needed because of Chiriches and Kaboul so it's doubtful he would be leaving. Certainly Dawson himself doesn't want to as he told TalkSPORT this morning.
We can expect to see plenty more stories linking us with left-backs and centre-backs over the coming weeks.
