Scotland Under 21 goalkeeper Jordan Archer has joined Northanpton Town on loan until January when presumably Tottenham will reassess Brad Friedel and if there are no injuries to cover for send him out on loan again for the remainder of the season.

Jordan Archer loan deal

Our American Ambasador is no spring chicken any more and it's taking him longer to hit the deck, you can only keep on memory for so long and the North American tour showed that his retirement time was fast approaching.

Archer is 21 and fell ill on the first day of the North American pre-season tour, only recovering when it was over.

“I’d been doing my pre-season at Spurs and looking to get some games to boost my experience. The gaffer (Mauricio Pochettino) said there was a chance to get some games here at Northampton and I’m glad to be here.”

Northampton Town manager Chris Wilder told the Northampton Chronicle that Archer adds competition and that he will have to fight for his place.

“Jordan is here to challenge for a first-team place. Dean Snedker needs to be playing regular first team football and we are looking to send him out on loan.
“It is important you have more than one player for each position and he is very much in the frame to battle with Matt Duke for a first team spot and Matt knows that.
“He has a good pedigree and has some experience of League 2 and I am pleased to add him to the squad.”

Game time is important for goalkeeper, it is very difficult to recreate game situations for them on the training field, even more so than outfield players.
