SCOUTING TALK

The season is under way and there are more games for our scouts to go and visit to gather information on potential targets. Yesterday you heard about our continued scouting of Ndidi, a 19-year-old (20 in December) defensive midfielder from Genk, who can also play as a centre-back.

Whether you have sufficient players in a position or not you still scout for other. There may be a youngster coming through who is the next generation, there may simply be a better player becoming available, there may be a long-term injury or simply a player deciding to leave. In any eventuality you need to have a plan in place to deal with it and the preparation work already done, having already scouted potential players.

Tottenham, Manchester City ans Arsenal are just three of the clubs tracking Portugal Under-18 international and Monaco left-back Ruben Vinagre. The 17-year-old (18 next April) cam operate at left-back, left wing or the left of midfield and is left footed so presumably could play as an inverted winger on the right.

He moved to Monaco last summer from Sporting but is yet to make his debut. That doesn't stop the Daily Star suggesting Arsenal need a left-back replacement. He is one for the future chaps, not one for now. The Record in Portugal run the story and suggest he could go out on loan with a buy option at the end of the season.
