Spurs To Go Double Dutch?
By ManicSpur
Edgar Davids should sign for Spurs along with club and Dutch international team-mate Andy van der Meyde today.
We broke the news to you first that another signing may have been on the cards at Spurs and that both the new signings would be unveiled together.
Daniel Levy has had an offer of around £5.8 million accepted by Italian giant's Internazionale for the flying Dutchman.
Martin Jol was in talks with van der Meyde via telephone yesterday so as to wrap up the deal. Last night, talks were nearing conclusion between Jol and van der Meyde. If all goes well this morning, van der Meyde could be at Spurs Lodge for his medical by noon.
Everton also had a bid for him accepted by Inter, but the player is thought to have chosen us over any other team due to the ambition shown by the Tottenham management, squad and of course Martin Jol.
The talented winger, who scored a stunning volley against our rivals Arsenal in the 03/04 season of the Champions League, can play on either wing but does prefer the left flank. He is naturally two-footed, big, strong, has an abundance of pace, and coupled with his drive and skill make van der Meyde a threat to any oppositions defences.
Van der Meyde has found it difficult in Italy. He hasn't started as many games as he would have liked for the Milan club, which prompted him only last week to say that he would stay at Inter and battle for his place in the side.
Van der Meyde's main personality attribute is his will to succeed. Martin Jol knows the player from his days at Ajax and understands the players hunger. Along with Davids, Jol is building a team of born winners that have the experience needed and that 'winning mentality' that our young talented squad need in order to step up to the next level.
If all goes well, Spurs will unveil two true great Dutch players.
For the first time in our short history, the THBN Team are absolutely ecstatic with this news. We can't wait for this season to begin. I am sure that most of you also feel that way.

We need to get rid of some midfielders if both sign for the club.

Atouba was an exception but now he's gone.

We have been told that Van der Meyde can definitely play just as well with both feet.
He found it hard settling in Italy and didn't really get that many goals.
We hope that the new surroundings of the Premiership, coupled with Jol's guidance will help him flourish (if he signs that is).

any news on this
I think they've used a great bit of nouse! Buy players that are top class, that aren't in the first team the year before the world cup!
VDM has basically been given an offer to good to refuse, play first team football leading up to the world cup with a dutch team mate, under a dutch coach!
If we achieve a top 6 this year, its going to be a great deal easier to secure other 'big-name' signings.
Remember when Gullit went to Chelsea...all the players that followed.
Berkamp at Arsenal.....etc.
Watch the players flood in next season.
This Davids transfer is a real breakthrough!!!
In another vein, I am sure that Edgar Davids will prove to be a great signing. I have not seen another player, not even Steven Gerrard whom I greatly admire, who can match the pace and aggression with which he plays the game over the full 90 minutes. I think the Premiership will suit him down to the ground.
Who Needs Frank A?!?
I must admit after Alan Sugar left (who we all disliked to a degree!) I initially thought that somehow DL & Enic had taken the club backwards. However, they were clearly biding their time to get the right system in place and it is great that this has now been achieved.
Come on you Spurs.....I am expecting UEFA Cup Qualification at minimum.
Have tickets for the middlesborough game and can't wait to see it!
probably would have prefered sneijder but if we pull both of these signings off it will be a great day in spurs history and a massive step forward for the club.
well done mj and dl.
Owen will not be coming to Spurs, not yet anyway. Who is to say that if we make a CL place next year, he may join.
Rumours are that he will stay in Real. He would never join Man Utd. He played for Liverpool remember??

Now would be a good time to buy THFC shares, before market reality starts kicking in.

He's not a goal scorer, so is he worth bumping Ziegler/Reid et al down the left wing pecking order?
I'd prefer a striker, as Jol's midfield cupboard is piled pretty high.

Heard a rumour that Brown is on his way to Wigan and Davis to Man City or Everton. Can you shed some light on this THBN.

We were told by the same source that informed us about Davids that we would break our transfer record.
We were then given 3 players, Westley Sneijder, Dirk Kuyt and VDM.
As neither of them break the £11 million mark, apart from Feyenoord's valuation of Kuyt, we rubbished the story in our comments yesterday.
Please be aware that we publish any sound info we receive from our sources. Sometimes that info can be misleading. We are sorry for any miss-truths we publish.

Ge Used to clean my boots you know.
still convinced he will be a success though
We also would have preferred Sneijder, but as that hasn't materialised, VDM will be a fine signing.

About Van Der Meyde. Whoever said the fella is not quick has got to be joking. He is very very quick and powerful, i would agree that his final ball could be better, but fingers crossed Jol could sort that out. I thinks it a very good sign the fella wants to leave Inter and get first team football.
About Stalteri. I have been very impressed with Kelly in Pre Season, but i woudl still think Stalteri will start at Right Back, he has been consistently good for Werder for a few seasons, gradually getting better and better, he is a very solid player, who rarely gets beaten one on one. Is similar to Tarricco in the way he keeps the ball.
Well fingers crossed today for Davids and VDM.
Peace
ed
In my opinion... i believe VDM should play on the right flank with routledge being his understudy... reid should continoue his good run on the left flank with his much cultured left foot... dun forget he did score one or two spectacular goal last season...
and pls, dun bother is VDM a goal scorer... i believe his main job is to deliever and to skin a few defenders... wt we needed is actually a good goal scorer to play alongside defoe... i dun see mido as too much of an ideal... and i believe we can afford to lose kanoute if we get someone decent in...
My back of a fag paper calculations estimate that we had/have a wad to spend. 5m (Atouba 1.5 - Davies 3.5) + FF' compensation (6-8) + monies allocated for the summer. So in theory could offer 11m + if we wanted to and as we are reported to have done for Baptista.
If we have the right players coming to the club and a settled squad I dont care if we only buy free transfer players - breaking records is …

I give the bird to the scum. Never red
Come on you Tottenham Dutchspurs.
Do you remember the squad we had 2 years ago?
Let us remind you:
Keller
Sullivan
Doherty
Tarrico
Richards
Carr
Anderton
Poyet
Freund
Davies
Etherington
Sherigham
Zamora
Shall we go on??
We need to take a step back and look at the difference in personnel.
The squad we have now, even without Davids & VDM can get us into the top 5.
If we get VDM, then it will be an extra plus.
Please remember what our squad was, and what it is today.

I have hear of this yes ?
The highly rated player is rumoured to be Tottenham's much talked about "£10m swoop". However, the player's agent has previously insisted that he would only go to a team that could offer European football. Where have we heard that before?
Club spokesman Massimo Moratti stated: "We have been dealing with Everton and Tottenham over the futures of Davids and Van der Meyde."
More news as we get it.
Whats that about then sope he dont go to everton
has any1 herd anything on andy johnson and where he is gunna b playin nxt season
But who knows what the midfield's going to look like. I assume it will be - Davids and Carrick in the middle, van der meyde on the left and Tanio on the right.
That leaves Reidy (no loss there)Davis, Routledge, Mendes, Lennon, Staltieri all over.
Wonder if Davids and van der meyede have anything in their contracts saying if they are fit then they have to play?
Come on the YIDS!!
Ill be out side the West stand Entrance today at 1pm If youd like to discuss this further ?
Bring your mates too.
EDGAR D.
Kanoute WILL be leaving in the next 10 days as we are on the verge of signing Kuyt.
Andy Johnson was only being watched in case Keane doesn't sign his contract, otherwise he is off to Newcastle or poss Everton.
MJ is not silly and will not pay more than 7 million for AJ (I dont think he's worth 7 quid).
Any new left back/striker may be purchased in the January transfer window when it is hoped a new Director of Football will have been appointed.
Any other deals that might materialise will be young ones for the future.
You heard here first.
Why you Think that idiot Viera left Arsenal. He Knew i come to Prem.

We now have pace and style with these 5 new players.

Lets hope we can have a decent cuo run and a top 6 finish. I think CL is a step too far.
Don't get me wrong I'd love it if we did get a top 4 finish
Secondly, VDM record shows that he doesnt score that many goals, he is a great player agreed but since we need goals do you think Jol will move for Sneijder in the near future!?
Will Davids be available to play in tomorrows friendly at Reading?? I've got my ticket!
Anybody else going??

Look out for it next week!

Tottenham are poised to complete a sensational double Dutch swoop after having a bid for Andy van der Meyde accepted by Internazionale, having already captured Edgar Davids.
The Italian club have consented to an offer from Spurs' chairman Daniel Levy and talks are at an advanced stage for flying winger van der Meyde.
Davids came through his medical successfully on Thursday, but Tottenham held back on presenting the combative midfielder as they hope to present both players on Friday with van der Meyde already in the country as part of Inter's pre-season tour.
Everton were also interested in the duo and hoped that the lure of UEFA Champions League football would swing things their way, but Martin Jol persuaded Davids to move to White Hart Lane and has used the Dutch connection to land van der Meyde.
Inter chief, Massimo Moratti, confirmed that the club have spoken to both Spurs and Everton about the duo, but negotiatio…
We will have to wait and see.

I'M VERY PLEASED THAT DAWSON SEEMS TO HAVE AJUSTED TO EPL WELL.. BUT C'MON, DON'T RUSH TO PUT TOO MUCH RESPONSIBILITY ON HIS SHOULDERS JUST YET. GIVE HIM TIME, ESPECIALLY TRAIING ALONGSIDE TWO OF THE BEST DEFENDERS IN THE WORLD, KIND AND YES, N. NAYBET STILL.. IN FACT, WITH INJURIES TO KING AND NAYBET, AND THE SOMETIMES UNRELIABLE EDMAN AND STILL YOUND KELLY, I THINK OUR DEFENSE COULD BE OUR ARCHILLES HELL THIS SEASON... BU THEN AGAIN, WHO CARES SO LONG AS WE ARE SCORING ONE MORE THAN "THEM" UP FRONT !!
LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING BEHIND SPURS (AND NOT PUTTING "ANY" PLAYERS DOWN) THIS SEASON.
836 games and no goals!
Utd are on the decline - Ditto arsenal and if Chelsea agree to the essien fee they are mugs,He is Drogba 2 the return.
I put 25 each way on spurs at 200/1 at the weekend for the league,we are going to have the best season in years and be honest we deserve it.

You say Andy Van der Meyde is two footed. I can assure he's not(he's right footed), although he has played a fair few games on the left he predominatly a right winger.
He doesn't look that great on paper.
it's strange i'm really excited and also kinda worried, i wont believe anythin until i see them holding the shirt!
apparently spurs have had a 7.5milliond bid rejected by Chelsea for Bridge.

As regards WHL. We can tell you that Daniel Levy will hold talks with Haringey council in December.
He has set them a deadline of restructuring the White Hart Lane area.
It is very unlikely that they will do this as the costs could go into the billions.
Levy & the board know this.
Unoffocial news is that the area near Picketts Lock will be purchased for our new ground.

Wouldn't want share with the scum!!!
This will become the boards number 1 point to improve.
Arnesen was away at many various sports academy's in Holland so as to report back with info on how our new academy should be structured.
That has now been put on hold obviously.
A new Sporting Director is needed, but we have had nothing through on who the club are after.
We have been informed by the club that Daniel Levy is looking at a few options, but no names have been given.
Davids does not need an eye test.
Please get back to talking about Football. We will delete every non-footballing comment.

WE SHOULD TRY AND SIGN SNEIJDER ANYWAY, HE IS AWESOME. OR EVEN BEN ARFA, HE LOOKED LIKE A GOOD PROSPECT AGAINST US, FAST AND DIRECT.
And we shared a ground briefly with arsenal in about 45/46 when theres got bombed.
We will be spending a lot of our turnover on redeveloping it in the near future.
First and foremost though, we need a Sporting Director that can work alongside Martin Jol.
We think that Damien Commoli of St. Ettiene is the best choice.
The guy is young and very ambitious and is reported to have the largest network of contacts in Africa.
