Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 56

Antonio Conte on Ben Davies’ new contract: “He deserved to sign a new contract because last season he played in an outstanding way and he’s a great guy.” “He's always positive. To have a player like him in your starting XI or bench at this level is important.”

Ben Davies is a much maligned player and was instrumental in us achieving Top 4 and UEFA Champions League football last season.

We have a set of fans who think every player has to be a star name and is far too quick to get on players backs.

They do not help Spurs but create a negative air around the club, which makes achieving anything harder, as any successful person will tell you.

He did not deserve the criticism he was getting, he has always been a solid professional, the sort you must have in your ranks.

Not everybody can earn £200K a week, you have to have the solid homegrown players amongst that, although he isn't for European purposes.

I'm glad to see him prosper and get some of the plaudits.

Our fans do go from one extreme to the other though as now they seem to see him as an undroppable to anyone but a star player, when in fact we have bought, or more accurately loaned, a better ball playing centre-back in French international Clément Lenglet.

You'll note how Antonio Conte says he is always positive, not negative, that should tell our fans something. It's an approach they should all adopt if they want the tam to win and they want to help the team to win.

The perception of a club is important and Spurs fans must fuel a perception that success and winning is just around the corner, that the club is building towards great things and is the place to be.

That is the job of a true supporter on social media, t change the public's perception, rather than clinging on to outdated and ill-informed agendas.

Antonio Conte:

"I repeat that I'm not a coach who needs to sign a contract for money. I don't need that. In this moment I don't need this. I need to have enthusiasm and the passion for this role."

A winning mentality relishes new challenges as I have said many times and Antonio Conte has a challenge at Tottenham, a huge challenge.

He has the ongoing financial resources to achieve it, thanks to the new stadium generating self-sustaining money and isn't going to quit, winners don't quit.

Do you seriously think he is going to throw in the towel and give up saying I wasn't given unlimited funds to buy the best players in the world?

Get real.

He knows the Tottenham project, he knows the finances, it will have all been gone through in detail and he will be making sure he is kept informed of anything that affects his rebuilding of the playing side into a trophy winning squad.

You see, for a winning mentality, when you are building something, you embrace and enjoy the journey.

There will be ups and downs, but you know every twist and turn is a learning opportunity and will take you closer to your goal.

Yes attaining that goal is immensely satisfying, but it does mean that unless there is another challenge, a substantial challenge, then you look around for another and that may be at another club.

You remember Mauicio Pochettino questioning whether he should leave Tottenham after getting to the UEFA Champions League final, because that was a pinnacle beyond the expectation, that would be extremely difficult to top without investment and the stadium wasn't earning yet to provide that investment.

I repeat, that guaranteed income is needed to pay the increased wages investment in players brings. Unfortunately Covid hit and we would have been up the creek without a paddle, haemorrhaging money.

Despite projections, we need the money in the coffers first, then we can make more accurate projections and set out a team investment plan for the coming years.

Antonio Conte will be absolutely determined to win the Premier League title with Spurs, not just a trophy.

He turned around Juventus and Inter Milan, with resources, his biggest challenge to date is turning Tottenham around.

Most people say that Daniel levy and Antonio Conte are not a natural fit, well that's just people without a winning mentality talking.

People with a winning mentality can see they fit together because they both have winning mentalities, they both have a shared goal, they both have respect for each other and with that shared goal comes a shared plan to achieve it.

The communication between the two will be on the same wavelength, it's why Daniel Levy listens to what Antonio Conte says and accepts it.

What is taking place now was not possible 10 years ago as the club didn't have the self-sustaining income to pay players wages, had we invested heavily in the squad and the huge increase in wages that would have brought.

Now we do, hence we can invest.

If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say Tottenham are aiming to win the Premier League next season or the season after. This season will be about growth, about challenging for third, about cementing a Champions League place.

Antonio Conte on Spurs:
“For sure we want to continue to improve, to build something important for this club."

Make no mistake, this would be the biggest achievement in his career, taking Tottenham to a Premier League title, or who knows a Champions League victory.

Mohammed Kudus
Tottenham Hotspur have been tracking 22-year-old (23 in August) Ajax central or attacking midfielder Mohammed Kudus since January and have regularly sent a scout to watch him play.

That is something a club does once they have done all the initial statistical checks and video assessment.

Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 56

Max Kilman

The Max Kilman suggestion by the Daily Express seems very strange, given we already have two left-sided centre-backs in Ben Davies and Clément Lenglet.

The 25-year-old (26 next May) ,ay be homegrown and English Football Association trained, so would be available for both Premier League and Champions League squads, but it still makes little sense with Davies just having signed a new 4-year contract and Lenglet coming in on loan.

He would make a 6th centre-back so I can see it from that point of view and he is homegrown, but ho much would he play?

I can't see that the amount of game time we could offer would be of much appeal to him.

Tanguy Ndombele

French Ligue 1 side Marseille are showing interest in outcast Tottenham Tanguy Ndombele.

Marseille president Pablo Longoria is still looking to replace Boubacar Kamara in his midfield after he joined Aston Villa om 1st July.

A deal will be difficult as the French don't have the income to afford his wages and to pay more of his wages they would want a lower loan fee and option price.

Centre-Back

Spurs are looking at two options at centre-back which has become obvious throughout this window.

We want a high quality centre-back that improves what we have.

If we can't achieve that this window then we will wait until next summer to tackle it.

Secondly we are looking at young centre-backs with high potential so clearly Conte has decided that neither Joe Rodon or Japhet Tanganga fit that bill.

Japhet Tanganga was been the subject of an inquiry by Inter Milan on Tuesday. As it stands we are not moving from our obligation clause and AC Milan are not moving from their option clause, so no progress is being made.

Random Facts

Since NBC began broadcasting the Premier League in August 2013, Harry Kane has scored the most goals than anyone else (183) and Hugo Lloris has recorded the most clean sheets than any other goalkeeper (111).

That tells you that our defence is not usually bad and is better than many fans give it credit for.

The Premier League squad that receives the highest proportion of abusive tweets overall is Tottenham Hotspur. The findings were released on Tuesday by the communication regulator Ofcom.

How many of those are from our on fans?

Doesn't this show why Spurs fans should be more positive towards the club and the team, instead of negativity.

Do people seriously think abusing a player helps them perform better, do they seriously think that it puts them in the right frame of mind, do you think it their mentality?

We do have some crazy fans, too may with agendas.

Harry Kane was one of the 12 most abused players in the Premier League, with 5% of tweets directed to him being abusive.

Harry, of course, didn't perform for the first half of the season last season.

Oliver Skipp

Emerson Royal injured the top of Skipp's foot with his studs so obviously, with stitches, he couldn't kick a football with that part of his foot or he might open it up again.

Common sense, so why were the ill-informed telling us he would be back for this weekend?

He is out for at least a month and a half. He is in discomfort and may have cracked a bone.

Joe Rodon

Plenty of fans rated Joe Rodon but four managers didn't. Rodon has been an exemplary professional though so it ill be great to see him getting regular game time in France.

I think he as, is, a candidate for a sports psychologist to unlock his potential to improve. He comes in and trains ell but the expected improvement has not been sufficient to get him game time.

I feel weekly sessions could have made the difference and Spurs have missed a trick.

Best of luck to him at Rennes.

Eric Dier

Antonio Conte stated that Eric Dier could become one of the best centre-backs in Europe and he went on to have a brilliant season at the heart of and organising our defence.

Conte has asked the club to extend his contract which the club had every intention of doing anyway, but it shows how valuable Conte feels the non-homegrown Englishman is.

I still see fans saying we need to upgrade him, none of them were saying we should sign him two years before we did!

Yves Bissouma

Although he wasn't ready to play at the weekend anyway, he has recently had Covid and isn't versed in our system or what we expect of him within it, Yves Bissouma has picked up a light injury in training so won't be a part of the game vs Southampton.

Tom Huddlestone

Former fans favourite, Tom Huddlestone, our gifted former midfield player has been appointed as a playing (limited) U-21 coach at Manchester United.

The 35-year-old former England international left Hull City at the end of last season and replaces Paul McShane, who played five games last season.
