Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 48

Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 48

Good morning everyone, it's a new dawn, it's a new day, Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 48.

Birds flying high
You know how I feel
Sun in the sky
You know how I feel
Breeze driftin' on by
You know how I feel

It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good
I'm feeling good

Fish in the sea
You know how I feel
River running free
You know how I feel
Blossom on a tree
You know how I feel

It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good

Dragonfly out in the sun, you know what I mean, don't you know
Butterflies all havin' fun, you know what I mean
Sleep in peace when day is done, that's what I mean
And this old world is a new world
And a bold world
For me
For me

Stars when you shine
You know how I feel
Scent of the pine
You know how I feel
Oh, freedom is mine
And I know how I feel

It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life

It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
It's a new life
For me

And I'm feeling good
I'm feeling good
I feel so good
I feel so good

Isn't that how we generally all feel about being a Spurs fan right now and about the Spurs Summer Transfer Window in general.

Alas no, not all.

Some apparently still yearn, some still complain because we are not signing 'flashy' names for this mythical pretence that it is making a statement.

A statement is useless if nobody is taking any notice of it and clubs, managers, head coaches and players don't, only the fans and media do, it means something to them, but they are not important, they don't bring you three points.

Yes they help, yes they can create the right vibe around the club, yes they can create a healthy happy environment and positivity when the word Spurs or Tottenham Hotspur are mentioned.

But we don't have  a fanbase that do that.

Despite on and off the field being very rosy, it's not flashy enough for some egos.

Chelsea flashed 100m on Lukaku, a statement, knocked out in the Group Stages of the Champions League, 3rd Round of the FA Cup and League Cup, 3rd in the Premier League.

So much for statement and putting fear into the opposition, all worried by your statement signing(s).

Give me Dejan Kulusevski over a flashy name any day, one of the best signings of last season by anyone.

Where did the £750 a week Ronaldo transform to?

Premier League 6th, FA Cup 3rd Round, League Cup Round of 16, Champions League Round of 16.

Dele Alli made a statement of intent at the beginning of the season but as soon as the going go tough, he got going, well he gave up basically.

He would give it everything if he was guaranteed a starting place is what it boiled down to. If I am not going to be picked I'm not going to put the effort in in training.

Yet putting the effort in on training is how you get picked!

All this "statement of intent" talk is baloney.

It's shout your mouth off stuff because if you shout loudest you are the best bollocks.

Substance is what matters.

Getting a group of like minded people, people who want to continually improve and being surrounded by those people keeps pushing you.

Being surrounded by slackers like Dele doesn't, it drags you down.

A player, however skilful, is only worth big wages if they have proven that they want to continue improving, that they have that winning mentality that pushed them to do that.

That is what Antonio Conte is looking for in building a squad.

Take the maligned already Clément Lenglet.

By all accounts, all Barcelona centre-backs have been poor, have made mistakes and, for want of a better word, broken his confidence, how much remains to be seen.

The same that happened to the also maligned Eric Dier.

Even though he was fourth choice, he still played 27 games last season in a four man backline.

A winning mentality thrives on a fresh challenge and we have offered him one with Barcelona in the throws of rebuilding after Messi and bringing in the wrong mentalities.

Once you start bring in the wrong mentality you have to cut them out as fast as possible but they don't want to go and are on higher wages than their mentality is worth so nobody wants them at a price they are not worth and on a wage they are not worth.

I mentioned Ronaldo earlier, a winning mentality but so successful few can afford him and for Manchester United it was a bit of a publicity stunt to appease the fans and yes for Ronaldo publicity too.

He personally cam through with his reputation intact, he scored goals in the Premier League, as we know to our cost. For him it's look for the next yearly project in the twilight of his glorious career.

At United he wasn't surrounded by winning mentalities, it isn't the Manchester United Sir Alex Ferguson assembled.

This mentality side is so so important, you can't succeed without it so look at our squad with a critical eye, who has the right mentality, a winning mentality, a mentality that drives them to improve?

Look at potential signings and ask yourself the same questions.

I don't care about their name, I care about their mentality.

Plucking the right mentalities at lesser clubs when you see them is the key to a successful transfer policy, even if, as is inevitable, some players move on as their value will increase.

It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good
I'm feeling good

Academy Coaching

The mainstream media are catching up with the news that Jermain Defoe is joining Tottenham as an academy coach and he will be joined by Yaya Toure.

I say joined but the Ivorian international is already coaching at Tottenham.

When Yaya Toure finished playing he joined Ukrainian Premier League club Olimpik Donetsk as assistant manager in February 2021.

From there he wen to Russian Premier League club Akhmat Grozny in June 2021 until December that year.

Since then he has been working alongside head of coaching Chris Powell, Stuart Lewis and Dean Rastrick with out academy players whilst he does he UEFA coaching badges, although not actually employed by the club.

He was interviewed for a permanent post in May after he impressed with his work with out Under 18's.

Toure started out working one day a week but that gradually increased as we saw the quality of his work.

The former Barcelona and Manchester City player lives in Hampshire and Tottenham are going to appoint him to a full-time post.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is unique among football stadia in that it earns from outside events that can bring in £100m a year.

News of events coming up in 2022/23.

There are tickets available for six events with discussions taking place for further events, boxing being just one of those and a potential Tyson Fury fight.

  • Tyson Fury has revealed that an exhibition fight with Hafthor 'Thor' Bjornsson is in talks for November at a stadium in London: "It'd be great to get in there in front of 70,000 fans and show him what boxing is all about. Make him miss and knock him out."
  • Friday 29th July Lady Gaga concert The Chromatica Ball
  • Saturday 30th July Lady Gaga concert The Chromatica Ball
  • Sunday 2nd October The 2022 NFL London Games Minnesota Vikings vs New Orleans Saints.
  • Sunday 9th October The 2022 NFL London Games New York Giants vs Green Bay Packers.
  • Sunday 13 November Rugby Union The Killik Cup Barbarian F.C. vs All Blacks XV.
  • Saturday 25 March 2023 Rugby Union Saracens vs Harlequins - The Showdown 3.
In March the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium hosted the International Sports Convention and the estimated £100m+ income from stadium hire events doesn't include conference events like this one.

When we get to see the accounts it will be very interesting to see how much this stadium is generating for the club, which in turn benefits the on field football through greater investment in players and wages.

WORLD CUP - season resumes Monday 26 December

Then we have the remaining rounds of the League Cup, the FA Cup, the knockout rounds of the Champions League and the Premier League fixtures which includes those missed because of the World Cup.

It means the FA Cup Final in now in June so warm weather may have an impact on games too.

For 8 weeks prior to the World Cup there are two fixtures a week.

There are only 4 weeks with one fixture so squad rotation is going to be vital.

We are not in the UEFA Conference League now, we can't just throw out a 2nd XI of squad players, we are genuinely going to have to rotate players and this is where Richarlison comes into his own.

He is not just a Plan B, he is a rotating Plan A too.

Kane will have to come off and have a rest, Son will too.

From Reddit:

Sergio Reguilón

I have been asked about Sergio Reguilón and why he has fallen out of favour.

Personally I think there are many factors. His defending isn't great but I always maintain the first job is to have attacking prowess and second is to be a good defender.

This is what you have at Liverpool for instance in Robertson and Alexander-Arnold.

I don't think his attacking prowess is that great, I don't think his crossing is good enough and, for me, he makes too many mistakes.

Ryan Sessegnon was poor in the first half of the season and I don't think he was learning much from Reguilón, he'll learn a lot more from the quality of Ivan Perišić who I think showed in the brief pre-season friendly appearance against Rangers that he'll fit in quickly at Spurs.

But you also have to keep in mind that we are rebuilding the squad and there are only so many non-homegrown players we can have in a squad and even less in a Champions League squad.

Therefore you have got to decide which players you can do without and which players can bring in a transfer fee.

Spurs have NO Champions League places available at the moment without even including Reguilón, Ndombele, Sarr, Gil and Lo Celso.

In addition it is World Cup year and a player isn't going to get selected for one of the major nations unless they are playing regularly. He was last on the bench for Spain in the Nations League Final against France in October 2021.

He is expendable and clearly Conte doesn't think he is up to the job, having no future at the club given there is no squad place available for him.
