Tottenham Talk - Lot's of Positives

Harry-Kane

It really pisses you off listening tp press conferences and every journalist just wanting to reveal how thick are.

The first question from the first three, Sky Sports, talkSPORT and the BBC asked about Harry Kane, his reaction and would Harry Kane play.

Fair enough, he is big news, you expect that, but the third idiot from the BBC then asks if Kane is going to be at Spurs the whole season or leave in January.

It basically demonstrates that this guy knows nothing about football, after all he is a professional writing, he isn't, none of them are, football experts, they are paid to get clicks to the advertisements on their employers website.

Clubs do not sell players in January.

January is half way through a season, it is a panic buy time for teams not living up to their expectations and are in trouble.

Thus they are prepared to overpay to try and resolve their issues.

Clubs not in that position are not going to potentially ruin their decision by selling their better players.

These thick journalists ought to know this, but no, he has to know if Kane has specifically said he is staying for the full season.

That's pathetic, it's failing to understand the meaning of a statement, but instead looking for the negative and taking something literally.

Does he, seriously think Daniel Levy is going to sell Harry Kane in January when he has kept hold of him this summer?

The Paços de Ferreira Game

A fantastic start from Kane to shut all his detractors up.

He was given a standing ovation from the supporters to show Twitter isn't real life, it's full of morons who know very little, apart from my readers of course.

The positivity from the genuine fans has returned to Spurs already after seeing against the Portuguese that we have signed to quality players in Bryan Gil and Cristian Romero.

This was the first time we got to see the talent they have and why Fabio Paratici has signed them for Spurs.

These two signings, quite frankly, make our previous scouting look pathetically amateurish.

Take the signing of Bryan Gil and Ryan Sessegnon, one a Spanish international already, one an overhyped Englishman who looks vastly inferior to his overseas colleague.

Spurs have signed a baller in Bryan Gil. Vision, skill, picks out a pass, finds his man when he gets to the byline and happy to play a nutmeg.

Sessegnon tries but achieves little.

For me his mental process is too slow, he has to take too long to decide what to do and doesn't always take the right option.

I think he has had it too easy with a bit of pace and now he has gone up a level it all looks too much for him.

I bang on about mentality because it is everything in football, how you think controls what you do, thus you need to think positively all the time.

He doesn't.

He simply doesn't have enough confidence in himself and he needs to grow that to develop as a footballer.

His progress will depend upon it thus working weekly with a sports or football psychologist is, quite frankly, essential for him.

I fear without it he will be a waste of £30m.

However there we so many positives to take from the Paços de Ferreira victory.

Romero is in the great tradition of Argentinian hard-nosed centre-backs with an eye for a pass, he reads the game well and has  the physical approach that Nuno is looking for.

He looks a real player, we have done some better business this window than people realise, especially when you add Lloris's successor Gollini too.

Harry Winks put in a shift in midfield with his tackle leading to the first goal.

Giovanni Lo Celso was able to spend more time attacking and trying to thread balls through their defence, this was much more the type of performance we want to see from him.

Harry Kane did what Harry Kane does and showed us why it was essential Daniel Levy kept him at the club this summer.

Substitute Steven Berwijn again looked lively, looked more of an attacking threat, hit the post but did make a couple of wrong decisions in the final third to thwart our attacks.

He seems a little unsure of what to do when he gets there, a bit like Lamela used to be on occasions.

Matt Doherty put in a much better performance, there is still his crossing to work on but he didn't look as useless as he has in previous games.

As I have continued to say Eric Dier is a better centre-back than our supporters realise and put in another good performance to continue his fine start to the season.

Ben Davies is a solid professional, just the type of player you need in a squad, not everyone can be a star, People need to get off his back, he doesn't deserve it.

Ben-Davies

The great thing about the first half was the way we were constantly trying to play the ball behind their defence for runners.

We are more physical in midfield too, a joy to watch.

The players are learning the Nuno style, stay compact without the ball to stop sides breaking you down easily but then with the ball be creative as well as having a fast counter-attack.

We showed some guile to play against a packed Paços de Ferreira defence and again, it was an encouraging uplifting game to give us hope for the new season ahead.

Well that's it folks.
