Tottenham Talk on The Watford Match
Tottenham Talk on The Watford Match
Good afternoon folks, a third post of the day and this one Tottenham Talk on The Watford Match from your #1 Spurs website Tottenham Hotspur Blog News (THBN) where I do the digging other sites don't do.
First a pre-game word.
At the end of last season the doom and gloom merchants were out in force and if you listened to these people, and I most assuredly don't, Tottenham were never going to climb out of mid-table.
Where fans need to rush into appointing a manager, Tottenham didn't.
The structure within the club was changing and Daniel Levy was handing transfer activity, including negotiation, over to the new Managing Director of Football Fabio Paratici.
He left Juventus to join us and wouldn't have done so without havingcontrol over what he was doing.
Those who still believe Daniel Levy is conducting negotiation are sadly mistaken, as that would simply make Paratici a puppet, a chief scout effectively.
It is a bit naïve to cling to an anti-Levy agenda when times are changing and he is concentrating on building the club off the field, absolutely essential to grow the club on the field.
The two are inextricably linked and more sustainable than being at the whim of a sugar daddy as his little ego play thing route.
Paratici has removed some older players and replaced them with exciting new talent and after just two victories at the start of this new season, the optimism has returned for many, the dissenters reducing in numbers by the day.
There will still be the staunch anti-Spurs folk who only support the club for 90 minutes but that is more do do with their ego being proved right than reality in context of the big picture.
And so, with Arsenal sitting bottom of the Premier League without having scored a goal in August, the only league club in the country (92 clubs) to achieve this feat, while Tottenham were the only club in the Premier League not to concede, Spurs went into this game with the chance to go two point clear at the top of the table heading into the international break.
The defence, as I said it would be last season, has been built around Eric Dier, who may not be the best in the world, but is way way better than a swathe of our supporters believe.
A totally unexpected victory over Manchester City and a battling victory over Wolves has now led to a surge in hop, a surge in optimism so fans are looking forward to a Spurs game without dread.
One hour to go before kick-off so I'll just leave you with this for now, at the bottom of the article you'll find links to the real Ilaix Moriba story and previous article all with the original content the NewsNow sites don't have.
The main news is that Moussa Sissoko starts against us and that Bergwijn has been chosen over Lucas Moura for the final attacking slot, presumably he will move to the right flank and Son will be allowed the left-flank where he scores most of his goals from.
Also Josh King makes his first start of the season.
He is one of the strikers linked with Spurs when he was at Bournemouth, moved to Everton just until the end of the season, where he didn't get a look-in and joined Watford this season.
Thirty minutes to go.
The Half-Time Team Talk
1-0 Son
A first-half that saw us play the familiar way now, pushing the opposition to attack the flanks.
Watford have sat back and Spurs haven't yet produced the quality around the box to create chances.
Our goal was a free-kick that the keeper should have easily collected but he was expecting a touch by a player, yet there was nobody near the ball. A total misjudgement.
We have been trying top play balls inside the full-backs but haven't yet produced the final ball from there to create a chance.
After 30 seconds, a poor keeper clearance to Bergwijn who then plays a poor ball to Kane that was off the floor, so Kane has to take time to control it, when it should have been played to it is received at ground level.
It's a little thing but it's an important thing, which reminds me that I spoke about a throw-in coach and again, even a simple throw to someone's feet we are throwing in so it is bouncing to their chest.
In tight situations a player has to waste time controlling it before they can play it. These little things can make the difference, especially in these tight situations.
30 secs - poor Bergwijn pass
1 min - Dier head shoe over the bar
8 mins - Ksne chip too strong
10mins - Bergwijn doesn't move towards a Skipp pass s it's intercepted
12 mins - Hojbjery overhits a ball behind the full-back but Tanganga does well to get a sliding cross in for a Bergwijn deflected shot
13 mins - Dele gives it away in our half
20 mins - Reguilon blocks a shot
22 mins - Skipp doesn't read the game. gets caught wrong side and has to commit a foul
25 mins - terrible Bergwijn cross goes straight out of play
30 mins - poor Tanganga cross hit's the first man
42 mins - SON GOAL
The Full-Time Report
The second half was a game management half in which we prevented Watford creating anything and again weren't good enough in the final third.
There were a couple of occasions, one Son cross and one from Moura that was deflected through Kane's legs.
Certainly something we have to work on.
Son played most of the game on the wrong flank until Moura came on and he did what he normally does, beats men but gives the ball away unnecessarily.
Top of the table, no goals conceded, can't complain!
Enjoy the next two weeks Spurs fans.
