Tottenham Transfer Talk: Scouting News

Scouts from Tottenham and Chelsea watched 20-year-old (21 next July) Croatian defensive midfielder Ivan Lepinjica play for his club  HNK Rijeka against Aberdeen on Thursday 9th August.

The Europa League 3rd qualifying round tie was a second leg played at Aberdeen that the Croatian side won 2-0, having also won the home leg 2-0.

He can cover several positions from central midfielder to defensive and offensive midfielder which is just the sort of versatility Mauricio Pochettino likes, but so do plenty of other clubs around Europe it seems.

He is regularly followed by several Serie A clubs including Juventus, Udinese, Atalanta, Sampdoria and Fiorentina, while from France Saint-Etienne.

The Croatian press are speculating that his guide price of 5m at the end of last season has already increased to around 7-8 million.

I haven't seen anyone complain that Victor Wanyama wasn't in the squad, but then he has only recently returned to training, but as you know he is for sale anyway and has a problem with his knee that has to be managed.

Eric Dier is a non-homegrown player (he was developed in Portugal) whose contract ends in 2021 and would have been available for sale this summer if he hadn't been injured. He too is recovering fitness so the fact that Oliver Skipp came on ahead of him might not mean much.

However, it is an important season for Dier, if he wants to stay at Tottenham. He needs to improve his game, it was erratic at best at the end of last season so one has to ask if watching Lepinjica is a sign that his days are numbered.
