Veljkovic to go to Spain on loan

Tottenham Hotspur have been looking for a suitable club for Miloš Veljković to give him a season of first team football.

He had been going to Leeds United but that move fell through and now it seems the 19-year-old (20 in September) is going out on loan for the season to Sporting Gijon who play in La Liga.

We are starting to embrace foreign football to develop our youngsters, something I have been calling for for a while. Sending our youngsters abroad will give them first team football sooner and develop them quicker as well as making them mature quicker as a person, which in turn matures them as a footballer.

Only recently we agreed a deal with Roda JC in Holland and I believe we need a similar deal in Spain where players are brought up with a different mindset than they are over here. Tom Carroll made a mistake when he didn't go on loan to Ajax when Christian Eriksen joined Spurs, his career has stalled since and hasn't really got going, yesterday he made a substitute appearance from a youthful bench. His future will depend how he handles the UEFA Europa League this season.

According to Spanish paper Marca he has already travelled and signed the deal which Veljković's comments confirm.

“I’m very happy. The manager knows me very well from last year and convinced me to come. I already know what it’s like to play in El Molinon when it is full. I think this has been a great decision and I hope to help the team a lot”.
