Spurs not bidding for Lavezzi

Plenty of Spurs news in the papers today with the usual journalistic speculation that lacks any thought about actual circumstances.

Spurs not bidding for Lavezzi

Take the story in the Daily Express, they tell us Spurs and Liverpool are poised to make a bid for Ezequiel Lavezzi, the PSG forward who they have had enough of and who wants away himself. There were stories circulating that he had retired at the age of 29.

Spurs and Liverpool are deemed to need strikers thus they must be bidding but there is no evidence to suggest Spurs are even interested in him. There are no squad places available for him to fill so we can't buy him, he earns a high wage and we need to trim our wage bill, we have one striker we can't get rid of, Adebayor and one who we can't recoup our money on Soldado, so neither is going anywhere.

If a Premier League team is only allowed to name 17 non-home grown players and we have 18, Benoit Assou-Ekotto, do the Daily Express think we are going to make that 19 and have two players who can't play in the Premier League?

He has 2 goals in 678 minutes, a contract until 2016 and earns £75,743-a-week ($112,631 - €100,000). For PSG and for Argentina he plays out wide on either side and is not a central striker, last season he scored 9 league goals. Nothing adds up as being feasible for Spurs.

In those circumstances we are poised to bid are we, I don't think so.
