It looks like Crouch will be joining us

The scenario being played out at the moment with both Harry Redknapp and Jermain Defoe sending love sonnets to Peter Crouch can only mean a deal is on the cards.

I thought we would end up with Crouch, I just didn't think it would be this soon.

Harry himself said that he was after 2 or 3 players that could add class to our current squad. If that statement meant anything at all, can someone please explain to me then, how, and in what way Peter Crouch can accomplish this?

We're apparently waiting on Huntelaar to decide if he wants to join us not. Let's hope Crouch is plan B and the option of signing Huntelaar is plan A.

Hell, I'd even want Negredo, a player that's never played in the Prem, above Crouch.

With all this business about us being linked with strikers, I think it's pretty obvious either Bent, Pavlyuchenko, or both will be on their way.

If we hear another word from Harry on Crouch, expect it to be a done deal.

  2. Crouch would link up well with defoe, one of the few players who can actually do this. Defoe is a bit of a loner for me, so it might not be a bad thing. Pav can go for me. waste of space, obviously talent but far far too lazy, and I wont have those needs time to settle excuses, just needs to put effort in. Feel a little for Bent, but Spurs are better than Darren Bent, and Ideally we could replace him with either huntelaar or negredo.
  3. Are you mad Jaymes? I'd take Crouchy over Huntelaar & Negredo. At least you know what you're gonna get with him.

    He's also a better player than No-English Pavlyuchenko or Sandra Bent.

    At 12mil, he's cheap too.

  5. Crouch is an established premier league and international striker. Massively under-rated. What he offers to team not only directly through goals but indirectly through unselfishly supporting his strike partner and the midfielders cannot be under-estimated. He is what we need and should never have been sold in the first place. He may not be a fashionable name like Pavlychenko or Negredo or Huntelaar but what he offers is an instant impact. I don't get what the problem is?

  7. Harsh blog this one - we're only buying players who would improve the squad. I would say that he would improve our squad just like he`s done at every squad he`s been in including Liverpool and England.
  8. why the hell would you want negredo over crouch,is it because he has a more exotic name than peter,i bet he wont score as many goals in the prem than crouch,crouch is proven at club level and international level,i bet negredo hasnt even played a game for spain yet

  12. We know Keane and Defoe cannot play together as it doesn't work well for the team in general so it will be Crouch and one other. My money is on Defoe but Keane has won this type of battle before.

  14. Crouch and Defoe were dynamite at portsmouth. Crouch is so underrated, he has quick feet for a big striker, I think we'll score more goals from set pieces with crouches areial ability. It has to be a better signing than Bent, who I might add missed a header against portsmouth from virtually underneath the bar.
    Have faith spurs fans. Harry know's what he's doing.
  15. I dont believe the above comments. Sorry how many Premiership goals did Crouch socre last season? He would be an awful aquisition and in no way should we sign him. Pav has rested now and i believe hed have a good season next year. I bet half of you havent season Negredo play, he is Alan shearer like. You cannot argue with 21 goals last year, 18 year before that and 19 the previous year.. hed be worth a shot. Crouch cannot run, is not powerful and can hardly head the ball.

  16. Negredo is twice the player Crouch is. Quicker, better in the air, hustkes and bustkes the defence far more and scores more goals. Okay, you can say he's only played in La Liga but that's a bllody good league and considering he played for a second rate team says all there is.

    Crouch is average at most things-stay well clear.

  19. Just read on this other site that Big Pete is prob all we can hope for! Now i agree that BPC is an underrated player and has had a vaguely sucessful partnership JD. But to actually hope for The Bean Pole is really giving up! Yes we prob won't be able to attract Hunterlaar or someone of that level. But we must aim for the top or what else have we got this summer!? We are Spurs! we have a lot to offer players(if not european football) so we must aim high! To Dare Is To Do!

  23. It looks like the majority prefer Crouch. That surprises me to be honest.

    Some of the comments regarding the abilities Crouch has are interesting.

    He does hold the ball up and is an unselfish player, but don't expect him to score a lot of goals.
  24. Crouch gives me the same feelings i got when we wanted to sign Bellamy! Something starts churming inside and the bowels losen due to being totally underwhelmed! Sign Huntelaar or Negredo or my mate john is like 6ft8 and he scored 27 goals last season for our sunday team. and i'm really sure he couls make the step up!
  25. i am so depressed. crouch does not offer physicality as someone said, he is skinny and any decent defender just moves him out of the way by leaning on him, not fouling, just leaning. he gives height yet scores very few goals with his head for tht very reason. he is slow, in fact the only spurs player he might beat in a sprint is keane. scousers must be laughing, or the kinder ones shaking their heads in disbleief. crouch could not buy a goal for them and his pathetic efforts there only forgotten coz along came robbie and was even worse. fast breaks with lennon and defoe? i dont think keane or crouch have a role to play in that. huntelaar for me, he was great at ajax and would have been at madrid had he played regularly. i despair of having to watch that lanky loping guy for the next couple of seasons, bent is better, strong and fast and scores more goals. pav has much better technique. over the years i have identified in my mind certyain players who i just could not imagine…
  26. I'd take crouch on a bosman, then sell him on to the donkey farm for 65k, again, when we've finished laughing at him and the fans of the top 5 clubs have finished ridiculing us. If this is HR idea of only signing players to improve the team then we're doomed. If you think his goal ratio is good, you're having a laugh. If spurs want to reach the level of liverpool, why are we signing players they didn't see as good enough. HR will take us back to pre Jol.
  27. Huntelaar is a far better player than Crouch. Real Madrid's short-shightedness in getting rid of him so early could get us a World class striker. Crouch is Premier class, but that's about it.

    Why would we want to get Sneijder for left wing, Adam? He's a cental midfielder, and although he hjas played on the left before, he's not particularly effective there.
  28. Rafael van der Vaart can play on the left wing and tbh, is a player that I feel would light up the Premier League.

A lot of my friends are Liverpool fans and they always spoke highly of Crouch when he played for them (one even sarcastically always said that he is the best looking player in the Premier League). I, on the other hand, didn't rate him so highly... but I guess he is that kind of player: underrated by many; loved by his team's supporters. I would like to hear how Portsmouth fans rate him at this point. That would tell us a lot about how we may rate him in the future. All in all, I like how our summer has been so far. The core of the team is solid and I think we will do well this coming season. That is, finishing outside of the Top 4 but competing strong.

  31. At the moment we have four strikers, granted PC is a target man, proven goal scorer and all round team player. I am personally not a fan but one cannot deny that he does what he does well and with 100% commitment. But why, at the beginning of the pre season, when time is running out before the season proper, when we are clearly lacking in defence and midfield, are we still so concerned with adding a fifth forward to our ranks. Its all well and good saying Pav and Bent are certain to go but they haven’t, and nobody has any bids in as of today. All there has been is rumours. Pav may have only scored a few last season and not looked great but it takes time to adjust to the prem let alone if A) you don't speak the language and B) half way through the season there is a change in management. I personally believe if Gus Hiddink rates him as highly as he does then maybe it would be worth giving him a bit more time to settle in before selling him on and watching as another one of our plays…
  32. last season crouch and defoe were banging in goals for fun together. they definatly work well and i think this wwould be a great move. i'm more worried about getting a left midfielder.
  33. Again, Van Der Vaart can play left but is more adept in an attacking cental midfielder role. Robben is the excellent left sided player we need. I'd still go for Sneijder as an extra central midfielder fighting alongside Modric as Palacios' partner. Huntelaar up fron with Defoe would leave me feeling we have a potent attacking force. All we then needc is another central defender and a left back who's better than Assou-Ekotto.

  35. I would be majorly dissapointed if Crouch joined, I think Negredo is better, he is at Real Madrid so he must be a good player. Crouch doesn't score enough and for a tall player isn't a great header of the ball.

  37. Spurs have actually gone backwards two seasons ago Martin Jol had us in a position where buying the right players could take us to another level. Due to ill directorship we are now looking at mid division obscurity we are Fulham we are Wet spam we are Blackburn Rovers
  38. i am shocked by how highly people rate crouch on here , he is the most boring player i have ever seen , he is easily a worse plyer than bent & pav , i think pav deserves one more year , better english , more rest you never know i think he will surprise us all ,& bents goal to game ratio was was double crouch`s last season & bent spent a lot of time on the bench , come on 17 goals aint that bad you know,i would get rid of keane ,never really rated him ,misses way too many ( & did anyone know bent was bought to replace him )huntelaar is the man we need ,the class we lack far too often , could be the klinsmann we have been missing for years , strike rate is brilliant unlike crouch who is just pants ,far to average lets go forward not back or it will be same shit different season lets break the trend , we have 6 brilliant players & 5 average ones dragging them back & crouch will do just that , lets get more brilliance in the starting 11
  39. crouch is a poor striker, bent has outscored him for the last 3 seasons despite starting far fewer matches, people who rate him know nothing about football, hed be a terrible signing, redknapp is a shite small time manager, and crouch just proves this
  40. If anybody knows how to make contact with Harry Redknapp please tell him not to waste 12mil of our clubs money. We are much better off with what we've got, Pav is given 1 season in a foreign league and deemed not good enough, Bent WAS top scorer last season scoring against the top 4, did crouch do that. Come on harry, stop signing your yes men mates and take on a few more strong characters.

    Sneijder is both left and right footed and most his good work and goals at Ajax and Madrid have been from the wing....

    Therefoe he would be suited to our left.

  43. I agree with the HR doubters, i went off harry last season when he fielded a weak side in the uefa cup game knowing we would go out, in order to try and win the league cup. Well what's the point of winning that useless unrespected league cup other than to get the uefa cup place? it defeats the whole objective. He tried to get instant glory, he put his own glory before the club. Just think in 30 years of management he's won 1 FA cup and nearly 1 league cup, oh and he took southampton down. you'll see, the mans a loser and he'll take us with him.

    Robben can only play when he 100% fit...and pulls out of games unless he is.

    Although very good he is not committed as he spells in England and Spain have proved.

    Exactly what Spurs should not be doing is signing a player like that...

    Do need a left back and experienced centre back though.

    Would not mind Carvalho from Chelski and Ciskho from Porto who Milan have been trying for but found teeth problems with! (Bad Teeth are bad signs for footballers)
  45. the trouble with redknapp is he is a good coach & a good motivator but his taste in players really lets him down ,every club west ham southampton ,& portsmouth have had the threat of relegation against them on numerous occassions because of every 1 gem he finds he buys 3 really bad players , & his high rating of robbie keane & peter crouch proves this ,they are nothing better than average ,no winning manager now would look at crouch & think yes he`s worth 12 million , for me not even 5 million , thats why arsenal ( i hate to say it ) do so well , every 1 bad player wenger buys 3 gems , opposite to us , come on harry get yourself to specsavers & huntalaars the man ,not crouch
  46. Adam, you obviously have no real idea about football, just as you have no ide about me. I'm Dutch and have watched Sneijder since he first broke into the Ajax team. His natural position is playing as a central midfielder who all the play goes through. That is the position he is most effective in, and he has hardly set the world alight when at Real Madrid. Now I would love to see him at Spurs because he's my favourite footballer playing at the moment, but I'm not blinkered to what he is or isn't capable of. Go back to Football Manager and try to make more statements that have as much sense as a rabbits fart.

    Sneidjer maybe good in the middle in Holland but in a top league he is only going to get a real chance on the wing....

    Would rather have Van da Vart in the middle than Sneijder....

    Sneijder can deliver quality crosses from both wings,, something Spurs have lacked for some time (and Bentley has failed to provide).

    You have made a typically low level historical understanding of what works in England...there are 8 strong squads in the league and Sneijder would only do well in wide positions for all of these teams.

    On another note, I would love Sneijder and i am surprised the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea (who need him on the wing!), Man City, Aston Villa, Everton (lack of cash) are not pulling out all the stops to get him on board.

    Also, I have never played football manager is it good?

    Crouch..knows EPL very well .ie .defenders!...is a certain type of player with defoe etc which could be vital in some types of games .more options.....our squad has various attacking options...strength in experience is vital for continuing campaign for champions league....
    which is why id like viera too ..being fit..strong heads..!!

    dont underestimate these two.....they can play!......

    crouch may not be trendy .....but he is great in the air etc....
    viera...has some gas in the tank!.......ultimately has to be a stronger spurs!!.....

    Harry wants to move on and is doing what is right ,within budget etc.

    NO wholesale changes..too risky! .as Ramos proved....

  50. Neither Bent nor Pav can jump so we cannot get forward that way. Crouch allows us to do it.

    In the current market and with no European football these are the only kind of players we can get.

    Harry and Levy are positioning us to get the best we can for where we are at as a Club at present.

    With the right combination of players we can achieve top 6 and threaten 4th even if those players are not the elite.

  51. Crouch will be great for us , he is a decent player that will add a new dimension given the total lack of aerial ability of our other strikers. No world class player will sign for London's 5th team so stop moaning everyone.
  52. I think Modric has to play left because if he plays in the middle we will be too lightweight defending. We haven't got a natural left winger so he might as well start there and be allowed to rove around. As long as we have someone athletic at LB like Ekotto to cover.
    In an ideal world I'd like to see us playing 4-3-1-2 but would Lennon fit into a line up like that?
