Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 65
The son is shining and it's another wonderful day here on the coast leaving little reason to go abroad in search of sunshine.
Far better to wait for the winter and then seek it out.
OK so a few of you have mentioned family and my brilliant grandson. whether he is going to be a football nut we will have to wait and see, but he does seem to have his dads gymnastic ability.
I'm told his Dad was quite a good gymnast and little Max does seem to possess incredible balance and tough feet.
Walking along a 10ft 3/4m windowsill is no problem, climbing onto a toy on wheels and balancing on it has never been a problem, walking across the back of a chair frame with arms outstretched to balance himself he did for the first time when I was there a month ago, successfully I might add.
It seems clear there is something there from a very early age so do we pass down our sporting ability and interests to our children, as opposed to immersing them in it to like it?
Today it's Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 65 as we continue to talk with Roma to try and get Zaniolo over the line.
We just hope money talks in the end and the club sell him to bring the money in even though Mourinho is healing the rift between them be playing him, much to our chagrin.
I have been asked in the comments why Heung-min Son takes our corners and the only answer can e because of his delivery.
Taking corners is an art, as it demands accuracy.
The object of a corner is to get the ball as low as possible into the box whilst going over the first man.
So how high can he jump, you have to get the ball just over his head, too high and it becomes more difficult for attacking players to get over the ball and thus direct their headers down instead of over the bar as we often see.
The higher the ball, the more it favours the defending team, too high and the keeper can claim it and refs don't let you touch a keeper basically these days, not like it used to be in my days of proper football.
The lower the ball, the greater chance the attacking side has of scoring.
Let me take you back to Christian Eriksen taking corners, he statistically would hit the first man more than anyone else in the Premier League.
The club will have tested each player and Sonny proved to be the most consistent, hence has the job.
Thinking through the side, I can't think of anyone, Dejan Kulusevski perhaps, who could deliver with the kind of accuracy that Son can.
Just take a moment to run through every player in the team mentally who might be able to deliver it accurately.
Emerson Royal, Bentancur, Højbjerg, Sessegnon, no, plus they have other duties to perform.
You still need to defend from your own corners and your centre-backs go forward, you still need players who can get back to defend quickly so you still need a bit of shape, which the four mentioned above can give.
When you stop to think about it, there are few options for corner taker.
The other factor is that generally corners are sent across for headers and that is not Sonny's forte.
Can you imaging Sonny soaring from a corner to knock in a header?
I can't, yes he could pick up scraps but so could others so I think overall these isn't a huge amount to be gained from having Sonny in the box for corners.
The South Korean strikes me as a player you might have on the edge of the box, if anywhere, for a long range shot if the initial ball is knocked away.

Dane Scarlett
Young Spurs loanee Dane Scarlett is raising eyebrows at Portsmouth, the club ad players are impressed with him, which really augurs well for his future.
The 18-year-old (19 next March) striker has been sponsored by Portsmouth based Spurs supporters through the Spurs Official Supporters Club, a 90 strong group.
It has cost them £695 + VAT to become the official player sponsor for the Fratton Park club, now an EFL One club but formerly a Premier League club.
He was given his first start in the League Cup tie against Cardiff City that Pompey won 3-0 away from home.
Scarlett has had 45 minutes in League One so far managing 3 shots, 1 of which has been on target.
Alfie Devine
Alfie Devine is a talent and serious discussions will be had over his future development because there are some big European clubs chasing his signature.
Devine has two years left on his current contract and the 18-year-old (19 in August) is a player Spurs want to keep hold of.
The attacking midfielder who scored his debut first team goal for us against Marine in the FA Cup if you remember.
He has now played 12 times for England U-19's and was a part of the European Championship victory recently, along with Dane Scarlett.
Giovanni Lo Celso
Gio has wanted Villarreal all along but Spurs wanted an outright purchase or loan with obligation. Other players have entered the fray, Fiorentina, Napoli and Lazio from Italy.
With growing fear in Spain that one of these would offer an outright purchase deal, Unai Emery has asked the board to secure his primary target this window.
To that effect Tottenham have now agreed a deal with Villarreal and Lo Celso has had an agreement with the club on terms for a while.
The Argentinian midfielder will sign for Villarreal, a medical will be taking place shortly and he will be gone, at least for no.
There are conflicting reports from a permanent deal for around £21.16m (€25m - US$25.63m - AUS$36.10m), to a loan with option to buy to just a loan with no option to buy but a recall option in January if someone offers to buy him outright.
We need to get £17.8m for Lo Celso to not lose money on his transfer fee on the books, which I explained in a recent article.
For those who didn't read the article, why not. LOL
It is down to the decreasing value of an asset as each year passes.
I had high hopes for Lo Celso when he signed but he hasn't adapted ell enough to the Premier League and the slower pace of Spain clearly suits him better.
The deal is a loan with no option to buy.
Ryan Sessegnon
Ryan Sessegnon has already said Ivan Perišić is helping him improve his game and I revealed the pair are having a daily one-to-one chat as the Croatian has been assigned to develop Sessegnon and Destiny Udogie when he arrives next summer.
Sessegnon wasn't in the right place for the first cross to the back post, he hadn't anticipated play and moved to an area where the ball might go.
You learn on the training ground that when someone from the opposite wing, like Kulusevski, cuts inside there is the opportunity of a one-on-one at the far post so you must be alert to that, anticipate it and be making the run, if needed.
If the ball doesn't come it doesn't come, but that doesn't stop you expecting it each time and being ready to beat the defender to the ball.
Ivan Perišić wasn't even on the pitch but he had a hand in a goal that Sessegnon would not have scored before his arrival, indeed didn't last season.
"Even for the goal today, he literally told me get in the back post and you will score. That helped me today. He said Kyle Walker-Peters is quite small at the back post so if a ball goes in make sure you are there to head it in."
The development of Sessegnon is going to be very interesting to watch.
Perišić will be having discussions with the right-sided wing-backs too so look out for similar from the other side, he is like an additional coach specifically for our wing-backs.
Antonio Conte Press Conference
The Antonio Conte produced one gem that was probably lost on everyone else.
Conte was talking about improvements and he said the environment about the press is good.
Environment.
How many times have I written that what fans put up on social media matters, negativity from people creates negativity in the press as they pander to that.
We therefore see negative articles, which doesn't help the players one bit.
People being positive on social media creates a more positive atmosphere whenever the name Tottenham is mentioned, which in turn creates a more positive outlook from journalists, which helps the players.
So keep doing your bit to help the club.
The other key takeaway as that Tottenham can not afford to make mistakes in the transfer market now.
Purchases have to be carefully considered, not just pay whatever but seek the right players on the right deal to build the club.
Spurs are not going to go from where we were to top of the table in one window. It is a question of build and then gradually rebuild the rebuild with even better players.
Barcelona
Barcelona continue to sell, first media rights for the next 25 years, now Barcelona have sold 24.5% of Barça Studios to Orpheus Media for €100m.
That's €400m they have raised by giving away future income.

It's great news also that Perišić can have a greater effect than JUST his example down one wing. To be fair, both WBs appeared to me to be changed players with their performances against The Saints last week. Very positive signs.
I daren't even hope for all supporters on social media to start getting behind the club properly - but if that becomes possible at any stage then the sky really is the limit. The difference that could make is astronomical.
Barca selling off their silverware (Metaphor - not trophies.) is great news for everyone else - especially for clubs with a clearly-defined ambition to get up there and overtake their dominance ;-)
