Spurs watching Yerémi Pino

Spurs watching Yerémi Pino

Every now and then I like to bring you players you probably don't know Spurs are watching.

By watching I don't necessarily mean sending a scout to see, although that could be the case, but players whose progress we are following.

Players who we check the stats for, players we seek game reels of, all the things that often come before sending a scout.

A team we have been sending a scout to is Villarreal in LaLiga, the temporary home of Giovanni Lo Celso last season.

Yerémi Pino

We have been watching Pau Torres of course, as well as Gio's progress, but also their young right-wing forward Yerémi Pino.

The 19-year-old (20 in October) Spanish international (4 caps, 1 goal, 1 assist) played for his country in the UEFA Nations League semi-final against Italy for 41 minutes and the final against France for 29 minutes.

Since then he has played for 18 minutes against Albania, when he had an assist and 90 minutes against Iceland, where he scored.

Last season he participated in 16% of the Villarreal goals scored while he was on the pitch (6 goals, 4 assists).

The Spanish side have him tied down to a deal until 2027.

The CIES Football Observatory, the most accurate barometer of a players transfer fee, value him at 56.8m (£48.3m) and his agents are the same company as Gareth Bale.

Apart from the LaLiga games (31), he played 430 minutes (7 games) of UEFA Champions League football, scoring once, one UEFA Super Cup game and 14 minutes in the Copa del Rey.

English 19-year-olds generally don't get that level of first team football over here, hence some of them go abroad to seek it with varying degrees of success.

Pino has electric pace and is the youngest player to win a European trophy, a future star in the making.

A few others on the watch list (there are plenty more):
  • Victor Osimhen (Napoli) £42.61m (€50m) - 23-year-old (24 in December)
  • Antony Santos (Ajax) £43.63m (€51.2m) - 22-year-old (23 next February)
  • Julián Álvarez (River Plate) £43.88m (€51.5m) - 22-year-old (23 next January) - Joining Manchester City
  • Jonathan David (Lille) £44.14m (€51.8m) - 22-year-old (23 next January)
  • Moussa Diaby (Bayer Leverkusen) £56.07m (€65.8m) - 22-year-old (23 next July)
  • Donyell Malen (Borussia Dortmund) £56.84m (€66.7m) - 23-year-old (24 next January)
  • Rafael Leão (AC Milan) £57.01m (€66.9m) - 23-year-old (24 next June)
  • Alexander Isak (Real Sociedad) £58.37m (€68.5m) - 22-year-old (23 in September)
  • Rodrygo Goes (Real Madrid) £63.57m (€74.6m) - 21-year-old (22 next January)

A centre-back you may not know we have been following is 32-year-old (33 next March) Roman Saïss.

The left-footer plays for Wolverhampton Wanderers or did as he announced he would be leaving, having turned down the wage he was offered by them.

Tyrone Mings of Aston Villa is another left-footed centre-back we have enquired about recently, but he may be on his way to Newcastle United.
