Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 38

Conte Letter

Illness letter

A very nice gesture and the sign of the caring culture there now is at Tottenham Hotspur.

What a wonderful way to start the day, chatting to Spurs fans via the Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 38 article.

It is a beautiful Sunday morning with the sun shining and temperatures expected to be high.

Spurs Fans Tweets

Éric Lamela
Tottenham Hotspur played Sevilla yesterday and Éric Lamela was understandable a part of the pre-game press conference where he was asked about playing against Spurs, his former club.

"After so many years at Spurs it's going to be special for me to see my former teammates. I have a lot of friends there so it will be special.

"I've been speaking with Son and hope I can see him and give him a hug tomorrow.

"What can I say about Son?

"You've all seen him, he's incredible and he keeps on getting better every year and is more decisive.

"He showed that this year winning the Golden Boot and it's no surprise because he prepares himself in the best way every year to achieve those kind of accolades."

That just demonstrates what a winning mentality does, it looks for continual improvement, rather than maintaining what you have, which you could arguably accuse Lamela of.

Mentality makes the difference.

Djed Spence

Steve Gibson the Middlesbrough chairman was trying to squeeze £30m+ out of the Spence deal and fees were continually agreed that he then changed with add-ons to try and get the additional revenue through the back door.

Daniel Levy simply wouldn't have it and the deal was done for the figure Fabio Paratici originally agreed, a total of £18m.

How this deal does differ is that it is not an instalment deal. Most deal are such that the transfer fee is spread over the term of the contract, but Spurs are paying £12.5m in one lump sum.

Had it have been instalments then the fee would have had to have been higher, but Middlesbrough wanted money in this summer so they had to compromise on the fee.

This is what the delay was all about, the add-ons.

Japhet Tanganga

Tottenham and AC Milan (Technical Director Paulo Maldini and Director of Football Frederic Massara) will meet during the coming weeks to talk about an initial loan with option to buy defender Japhet Tanganga.

If they get the green light and they are happy with the outline figures, then they will contact Tanganga's representatives to take discussions with them to the next level.

AC Milan are very keen on signing him.

His representatives will meet with Valencia for exploratory talks next week as well.

Napoli are closely following his situation, while Everton and Southampton have made season long loan requests to be considered by the club and his team.

Indications are that he is tempted by Serie A champions AC Milan.

Attacking Midfielders

We are looking at homegrown attacking midfielders with James Maddison high, if not top of the list.

Spurs are in discussion with others though but this has all the hallmarks of a slow burner with everything hush hush.

As ever, Harry Winks is discussed and clubs we buy from need to secure replacements before they agree to let a player leave.

An attacking midfielder gives us another option as in our basic system, one doesn't fit, however, it could be that we change our system against certain clubs and in certain situations.

Spurs Snippets

New signings Fraser Forster and Yves Bissouma have to continue to quarantine in South Korea and won't return to the squad until Wednesday.

Ben Davies has picked up a slight ankle injury after his slight calf muscle injury, while Ivan Perišić, who also has a slight calf injury, hopes to get 20-30 minutes in the next pre-season friendly against Glasgow Rangers.

Conte on Lucas Moura playing wing-back
"I spoke to Lucas and I think this could be a good option. In the past I made Perisic in this position.

"Before a winger and to become a wing-back. He has the quality. The most important thing is the player has to be 100% ready to do it, but he is available for us.

"Lucas can play in many roles. I'm very happy for his commitment and tonight (Saturday vs Sevilla) I think he played a good game."

Joaquín Piquerez

I'm a big believer of scouring the South American market for cheap talent, as you all know and Tottenham are reportedly interested in Palmeiras left-back Joaquín Piquerez.

The Uruguayan international (7 caps, 0 goals, 1 assist) is qualified to play for Italy so could get, if he does not already have, an Italian passport, making it easier for European clubs to sign him.

The 23-year-old (24 in August) is also interesting French side Marseille and a Bundesliga club.

Kim Min-jae

The South Korean beast Kim Min-jae is the subject of transfer speculation with an unnamed Premier League club 'entering the race' as the press like to put it, to sign him.

I believe that club is Tottenham Hotspur.

The Fenerbahçe centre-back was the player e tried to sign when he wwas in China and after moving to the Turkish side he has become their best player.

Min-jae has a €20m release clause payable in two instalments.

The 25-year-old (26 in November) from Tongyeong, South Korea is 1.90 m (6 ft 3 in) tall and is interesting French side Stade Rennais, Italian side Napoli and Spanish side Sevilla among others.

The right-footed centre-back would perhaps be a replacement for Japhet Tanganga so does this suggest we have decided to try and agree a move for the young Englishman to AC Milan.

Joe Rodon is likely to go out on loan and Cameron Carter-Vickers has already left.

It would give us a sixth centre-back for this season if we can't sign the centre-backs we want to this summer.
