I'm Positive...
I'm Positive...
Thanks for sending me sailing past the 25 million page views mark, it has been a wonderful journey writing for the positive Spurs fans out there.
And it is that theme that I'll chat about today, positivity.
I have long written that settling for a 2-0, 3-0 win is not good enough.
It's the wrong mentality.
A winning mentality always strives for more.
A winning mentality always strives to improve.
Playing keep ball in the middle of the park or as we do, along the back line, which often leads to us losing the ball and being under pressure, is not a positive trait.
We have done enough, we don't need to do any more is not a winning mentality, it's mediocrity.
Man City don't settle for two or three goals, when in front they continue to look for more, in other words, they practice being clinical at all times, so when it is needed in a tight game they can produce that clinical move or clinical finish.
Tottenham don't, haven't done since I started writing this when Robbie Keane was here.
What has changed since then, nothing.
Chelsea score goals, Liverpool score goals, even Arsenal have spells of scoring goals, but Spurs don't that often hit four or more goals.
Are you telling me we couldn't have in all that time?
Nonsense, how many times do we fluff our lines in the final third, failing to score when it is easier to score but one player dallies, or plays a pass to strong etc.?
Too often.
Positive thinking reduces depression so is great for your mental health and with football being 95% in the brain and 5% in the feet that's rather important.
Positivity reduces stress, stress causes anxiety and mistakes and we have seen plenty of costly mistakes, especially when we drop to defend.
Positivity improves your overall psychological and physical well-being, as well as helping you to build your coping skills to help you master challenging times.
Footballers are no different then you, you have bad days, you have problems you have to think about and so do they.
Your problems sometimes affect your work, you are not giving 100%,you are not concentrating 100%, you don't produce as much or your best work.
It doesn't matter, you still get paid the same.
Same with a footballer.
They can take their problems to work too, they can affect a player too.
Thus learning how to stay positive has a positive impact on performance and indeed on how your support Spurs.
Positivity isn't something you can just switch on for 90 minutes and switch off between games, no, it has to be permanent.
It is that skill a player should be taught, the knock on effects are tremendous, you'll become a trophy winner, if you surround yourself with similarly positive people.
I maintain this should not be voluntary, but compulsory at Tottenham so we become leaders in the field and enjoy the trophies that would follow.
We'll keep it brief today, tis the season to be jolly, have fun.
