Alderweireld Sale Details

Toby-Alderweireld
Toby Alderweireld has 2 weeks to secure a deal
The Summer Transfer Window closes at 5pm on Thursday 8 August 2019 and thus Toby Alderweireld has until 25 July to fully complete a deal away from Tottenham.

That means the two clubs must have signed a deal where his £25 million release fee (€27.81m - $31.26m) will be paid to Spurs over a maximum of 2 years and a maximum of 3 installment payments.

If a deal is not agreed and signed within the next 2 weeks then there are three options.

1. Alderweireld is available for transfer for whatever Spurs want to charge for him
2. Alderweireld could sign the new 2-year deal he has been offered
3. Alderweireld could run down the final year of his existing contract on his existing wages and leave for free next summer.

Er Woodward refused to buy him last summer deeming him to be too old and Manchester City already have 17 non-homegrown players.

His age, he is 30-years-old (31 next March), counts against him. Clubs want players who can provide more years service than Alderweireld can. He only has a few years left at the top and like Jan Vertonghen, I believe he wants to return to Ajax to finish his career in a couple of years.

If that is the case then there is little value in buying him. Clubs today want younger players, something we adopted several years ago.

Roma though are a club who have expressed an interest, is that because their Technical Director is Franco Baldini, formerly of Spurs. Baldini will travel to London on Friday to meet with the Spurs board.

Alderweireld is reportedly their first choice to replace Kostas Manolas who has moved to Napoli.

If Alderweireld leaves then we want 23-year-old (24 next May) Sampdoria centre-back Joachim Andersen and it looks to me like he is waiting to see if we will be signing him before he signs anywhere else.
