How will Trippier handle the high-pressure environment

With Kyle Walker stepping up his game this season Kieran Trippier is pleased Spurs are in Europe, at least with two games a week he will be playing each week and able to show Mauricio Pochettino what he can do.

He started the UEFA Europa League tie against Qarabag in the worse possible way, giving away a needless penalty when jumping in two-footed to plant himself on the floor and become an easy target for their striker to manufacture a tumble over a leg. Most penalties these days are won by strikers rather than conceded by defenders with the falling over legs becoming an art form. defenders are frightened to touch a striker in the box as any contact results in a tumble to the floor and a decision for the referee. Spurs are no different than any other team in this regard.

After that inauspicious start, he then produced a solid performance and will get his first taste of a North London Derby when the tie of the round kicks-off tomorrow at White Hart Lane at 7.45pm. next week sees a trip to French side Monaco. It gives us a chance to see what he is made of in a high-pressure environment.

The standard of the opposition and the importance of the ties will demand he gives his best so at this stage of the season it matters not to his form whether he is playing in the Premier League or not. If there is a player in your place then it is up to you to show what you can do every time you step on the pitch, each game is an opportunity to keep saying to the manager I am ready to play, pick me.

These two games are a chance for the Spurs faithful to form their opinion of him because like it or not that will happen, it's human nature. From there it is not always easy to change that opinion and he will know that full well. Hopefully, he comes through the test showing that Walker has a fight on his hands to, at a minimum, maintain his form and the right-back berth.
