Germans losing patience, should Spurs swoop for striker?

There were plenty of reports that Tottenham tries to buy young German starlet Timo Werner during the summer transfer window, but he stayed at Stuttgart.

German newspaper Bild reported that Stuttgart offered him to Premier League clubs for £7.20-million (€10m), but that the player himself decided to stay.

The 19-tear-old was left out of the squad by new manager Alexander Zorniger and his comments seem to suggest he isn't bothered whether the player leaves or not.

"I'm of the mind to say enough is enough! And if he surrounds himself with enough people, there are other opinions too. I am not his nanny, he must get out of his comfort zone."

Werner's development is reported to have stalled and Bild report that Stuttgart Sport Director, Robin Dutt, wants to see a positive reaction from Werner now he is attracting criticism.

"Timo has been praised in recent years always in the highest tones. Now he has to deal with it when it is as external criticized internally sometimes. It remains to be seen how he deals with it:. Whether it incites criticism and it makes you better or you do not."

Clearly all is not rosy, he played just54 minutes i the first 3 Bundesliga games and didn't travel with the squad for the Herta Berlin game, the first time he has not been in the squad since August 2013. The club's honorary president Erwin Staudt told SPORT1 that being dropped does not immediately mean Werner is being sold in January.

"The fact that the boy is not even in the squad, but is quite normal. When you have 26 players, just have from time to sit and watch a couple of times. For me, he is still a very good talent. He must now work to recapture his place, and that starts in training."

Fans sometimes lose sight of the fact it is what a player does in training that determines whether he is picked or not, but fans don't see training so call for players to be given a chance or a run in the team. They get a chance every single day in training, if they have the desire and what it enough they will train at a level and with an intensity that forces the manager to pick them, rather than wait for the charity fans propose.

Tottenham will no doubt be keeping a very close eye on the situation. Last season he was in a relegation scrap and had his school exams to deal with, it seems to have affected him and the club are hoping he now knuckles down.

He was and is a highly regarded talent, but not all talent makes it, they haven't o have the right mental make-up, does he, we'll find out. For a player so highly thought of a deal at anything under £7.20-million might be a steal.
