Adrien Rabiot

Following a question on Twitter I thought it would be a good idea to round up where things stand with French midfield starlet Adrien Rabiot.

Rabiot has asked for a move and his Mum, who is his agent, has asked for a meeting with PSG. She wants her son playing 35 games next season and he won't get that at the French champions. Rabiot does not get on with coach Laurent Blanc but PSG rate him highly and don't want to lose him. They do not want to sell him and would rather he went out on loan.

We of course, tried to lean him in January, he had signed a new contract with a loan clause inserted especially for that window so he could join us but PSG simply put obstacles in the way and delayed and delayed everything throughout January. By then it was too late, he would have had to integrate and learn our system so perhaps wouldn't have been ready to play until late in February which would have only left March, April and half of May.

Spurs invited he and his representatives to the training ground in March demonstrating that we still want to sign him but the stumbling block is PSG letting him go. Rabiot wants to join Spurs and we want to sign him but we will only consider a season-long loan of there is a set fee option to buy him at the end of it. PSG do not want a buy clause.

His agent Mum has asked for a move and is now seeking further discussions, he has not handed in a transfer request as has been widely reported, handing in a transfer request affects a player financially through his exit package so you rarely now see actual transfer requests. It is all to do with desire, if a club sells you they have decided they don't want you technically and you can negotiate how much salary etc to receive from your remaining contract. If you hand in a transfer request then you want to leave and that is no different than you handing in your leaving notice, the club then doesn't have to pay you anything.

Arsenal have discussed a season-long loan deal for which PSG wanted £2.09 million (US$3.26m - AUS$4.41m - €3m), they might reignite their interest now their target Arturo Vidal has decided on a move to Bayern Munich instead. Juventus are interested in having Rabiot take over from Vidal, West Ham have also spoken to his agent mum at Charles de Gaule airport but he wants to join Spurs if we can work a deal with PSG. If we can't he may have to take an alternative option.

PSG want to increase their home grown quota with the departure of Yohan Cabaye to Crystal Palace and have agreed a £5.56 million (US$8.69m - AUS$11.77m - €8m) deal for Benjamin Stambouli according to French newspaper Le Parisien. Once he leaves we will have lost Paulinho, Etienne Capoue and Stambouli from our central midfield six. Ryan Mason, Nabil Bentaleb and Mousa Dembele remain being joined by Dele Alli, Tom Carroll and one other, Rabiot is top of that list.
