Spurs look at potential Development Squad signing

The Tottenham scouting team have been busy evaluating potential targets suggested by Paul Mitchell and agreed by Maurioco Pochettino.

Wide attackers, centre-backs, right-backs, link midfielders and defensive midfielders, it's tin midfield where news has surfaced of another player we have been keeping an eye on. French youngster Timothé Cognat is the player in question and at just 17-year-old he may not be one you have heard of before.

At 17 he would still get 3 years in and qualify as a home grown player if we were to sign him so although we have a young team he is a player we are considering for the future rather than for a first team squad place now.

He is in some quarters described as a defensive midfielder and in others as an attacking midfielder, which leads me to believe he plays the Ryan Mason role rather than the Nabil Bentaleb role, the two are different. He is the French Under-17 captain but has not broken through at Lyon yet so is clearly seen as one for the Development Squad and academy to develop for the future.

We secured the sought after signature of 19-year-old Dele Alli in January, a player Mauricio Pochettino was adamant we should get hold of, 18-year-old Josh Onomah has started to get brief apearances for the first team to aid his development as has 19-year-old Harry Winks, 20-year-old Grant Ward, young goalkeeper Luke McGee (USA & Canada tour, AIA Cup tour squad) and now Kyle Walker-Peters.

It is all a part of putting together a conveyor belt of talent, building the club is about building the future as well as building now.
