Konoplyanka to Spurs, again
2 min read
Reports in Ukraine claim that Tottenham have agreed a deal to sign 25-year-old winger Dnipro winger Yevhen Konoplyanka.
He is a free agent this summer and the reports claim an announcement will be made in the next few days. Time will tell, this is being reported in the Metro after all. The Daily Mail run a story saying we have turned down the chance to sign him, we did before so that would make sense.
Signing players from that part of the world has often proved problematical for us, we have tried to sign the Dnipro winger before, as have Liverpool. West ham were reported to be interested a few days ago and Konoplyanka has stated previously his desire to play in the Premier League.
Dnipro play current holders Sevilla in the UEFA Europa League final later this month so it's not surprising stories about him abound. He is recently quoted as saying he regrets not joining Liverpool when he had the chance. how much truth there is in these latest reports we will have to wait and see.
He certainly has talent, we have seen it first hand, the question will be van he adapt, it will be mentality again. The winger has completed the second-most dribbles this season in Dnipro's run to the Europa League final. in 14 games he has scored 1 goal and has 3 assists. In the league, 20 games, he has scored 7 goals and has 3 assists.
Nacer Chadli, Yevhen Konoplyanka, Erik Lamela and Andros Townsend sounds decent enough on paper, mind you if you add Andre Ayew for Townsend or Lamela it looks even better, then of course there is Jay Rodriguez. They are not the only names in the frame so we'll wait and see who turns up at the Lane. If we want an early signing that would appear to rule out Rodriguez.
If I had to make a decision I'd say we will not sign Konoplyanka, we'll sign Ezequiel Lavezzi from PSG instead.
