Are West Ham members of the Magic Circle?
3 min read
West Ham certainly have the gift of misdirection with both Karen Brady and David Gold it seems fine exponents of the art, so much so in fact that one wonders whether they are members of the Magic Circle.
The club has a history, through the 70's and 80's it was renown for the type of football played with quality players like Trevor Brooking and Frank Lampard gracing their colours, but then it started to go all pear shaped and what was a club you didn't mind seeing highlights of on a Sunday deteriorated until now where their reputation is in the gutter.
We had the dodgy dealings with the Argentineans when they should have been relegated as a result before having their name sullied further when bought by a pair who made some money out of porn, the there was the dodgy dealings of a few years ago, the known but unreported conflict of interest, at least West Ham refuse to confirm they reported it before the bidding process. Then there was the shafting of the taxpayer and the all time low, Karen Brady's performance in front of the House of Lords Select Committee.
Karen Brady told the House of Lords Select committee that she was going to bring the integrity back to West Ham, which presumably she meant was missing, but her subsequent testimony to the man in the street didn't match those ideals. I did correspond with the club but they refused to provide any explanation in writing wishing only to verbally respond to retain deniability of anything said. An inauspicious start.
Now they are no longer a club one can take a liking to and so much as we want to get rid of Emmanuel Adebayor, I'm glad Daniel Levy blocked any move there. West Ham, if reports are correct, wanted Adebayor for free, most loan deals have a fee attached, and didn't want to pay his wages either. If you want a player on a high wage then dip your hand in your pocket and pay his wages, simple, otherwise fish at your level.
To then try and blame Daniel Levy to try and deflect any criticism is just the misdirection trick a magician would be proud of. Some people you can't do business with David Gold complains, as if the deal he was offering had any benefit to Tottenham.
Adebayor's wages would still have been on our books in the summer, his value wouldn't have increased because he then only has a year left on his contract and if we loaned him out then we could only get a loan striker in. The only benefit to offer Spurs would be to take his wages completely off us fir 5 months but no, Gold wanted something for nothing, as if Daniel Levy were supposed to do him a favour.
Presumably gold thinks their fans are gullible enough to be misdirected again, I suppose he knows them best.
