Berahino vs WBA, Adebayor vs Spurs

Berahino vs WBA, Adebayor vs Spurs, player vs club seems all too common these days as players have all the power now they can simply run down their contracts.

Berahino can't get away from WBA and Spurs can't get shot of Adebayor, sounds like they should swap clubs, although if WBA signed him perhaps they'd give us Berahino on loan! Don't worry Baggies it's not a serious suggestion, just a bit of tongue in cheek.

Both were in negotiation with their clubs one throwing money at a player to convince him to have a buyout clause he doesn't want and the other to try and pay as little as possible to get rid of a player. Adebayor has now left by mutual consent.

Adebayor has been insisting on a £5-million payout to leave, but found himself collecting a wage unable to play any football. Tottenham have made countless offers all of which have been turned down, we refuse to pay the full years wage and the deal struck will certainly not be for £5-million.

There is no benefit to Spurs really to pay him £5-million, it would have been paid anyway over the course of a year so he was left with little option but to agree a deal. If not then he would have sent a message to every other club that he is trouble and only interested in money, not who he is playing for.

Would you as a club chairman want to put your club in that situation in the hope that he'll decide he wants to try for you? Failure to agree a deal would have said I don't want to play football.

He played chicken with Daniel Levy in January when he knew full well he wouldn't be allowed to join West Ham, yet still refused all deals and tried to force through a move to them. He did so again at the close of the transfer window, expecting Spurs not to back up their threat of not giving him a squad number, he lost that one again.

Now it was a contract termination on terms more favourable to Spurs or a year sat doing nothing, ala Benoit Assou-Ekotto. Common sense has prevailed at last.
