Why Everton need to sell Lescott
1 min read

For those of you that watched the Everton vs. Arsenal match this evening, you would have seen an Everton side that looked a complete shambles. The same squad finished last season in 5th. So what went wrong today?
Let's go back twelve months and take a look at the goings on at the side I support, Tottenham Hotspur.
A certain Mr. Berbatov had made it clear that it was his dream to play for Manchester United, even though he was under contract. Sir Alex Ferguson openly declared how interested he was in signing the Spurs forward.
Daniel Levy, the Spurs chairman, dug his heels in and refused to do business with Manchester United unless they paid a premium for Dimitar Berbatov. The result? The entire squad was in turmoil. Reports at the time were doing the rounds that Jonathan Woodgate wanted to teach Mr. Berbatov a lesson or two and on one occasions, let his feelings known to the Bulgarian international during a half-time team talk.
Tottenham's then manager, Juande Ramos, had to send Berbatov home as the tensions within the Spurs camp had come to breaking point.
Lescott and Berbatov are clearly different characters. But I suspect that the results of their actions had and are having the same results.
Everton looked a shell of themselves today and for the good of the club and fans, it would be best for Moyes to sell Lescott to Manchester City. If Moyes continues to play hardball, I can see a ruined season for the Evertonians and to be honest, they don't deserve that.

I don't think Berbetov handed in a transfer request, whereas Joleon has handed one in, but I see your point. We weren't playing as a unit and that is what David Moyes has instilled in us over the years.
Let's take the money and get a settled squad, or we could end up like you lot last season.
Once again, Cheers.

PS. Do one on our neighbors!
I'm a City fan. I think Lescott will be a good signing, but he's not worth £20m. I'd take reports of us throwing our weight around with a pinch of salt, but the move does now look best for all parties.
As a City fan i can honestly say bigger clubs poaching our players has in the past annoyed me immensely. Spurs fans would probably have sympathy having lost two or three yourselves in recent memory. I'd say Everton are at least as big a club as us, but our (slightly embarrassing) wealth has probably shot us up the ladder a bit.
As a manger i wouldn't want a player on the books who wanted to be elsewhere. I'm completely against players having so much power, contracts nowadays mean very little, but i'd get rid were i Moyes. With that £20m then could sign three or four very good players and give both our club…
Bob, the unhappy Villa fan
I expect player-power to increase within the next decade.
Such is life I suppose.

Giving Man Utd Berbatov or Man City Lescott will just encourage them to come back for other players in the future
Look up Neville Chamberlain and appeasement for more information
Tonights game WAS NOT A PRECURSOR FOR YOUR SEASON!! You all will pick up from where you left off in the next couple of games. NO TEARS!!!! I know its discouraging but bad things happen in football every once in awhile, but I do agree. The Lescott issue must be resolved immediately for Everton to get back on form. Berbatov and Keane screwed us SPURS fans over last year, so we know EXACTLY how you feel.
Wish us blessings against Scouse tomorrow!
Would have been GRREEEAAAT before kick off. Talk about knee jerk
You are all so knowing...

the fact is ---there not!!!
have to agree with the comments about lescot, moyes needs rid of sooner rather than later to settle his squad down
ARsenal arer a good team (it burns me to admit). In-fact history says they are the 4th best in the country.
Everton & Villa will struggle this year - not because of one result - but because both teams have not improved upon last year. Lescott will go - you should ask for Micah Richards and Johnson in return plus some cash - you could always buy Jenas off us!!!

Everton have won the title 9 times to Man Citys 2.
base in the UK and around the world must be triple Man City, and getting some Arabs in with blood money does not suddenly make you a Big Club- a rich club yes.
Big Club my arse.

If Man City win anything, all people will think is that it is false, and any club with that sort of money can win things. I am all for the monopoly of the `Big 4` being broken, but as a spurs supporter I wouldnt want to be regarded the way Chelsea have been because of Abramovic.
I dont like the way Hughes has dealt with the Lescott saga one bit, and I find it strange that its alright for Hughes, Ferguson, Benitaz etc to tap players up through the media, but when Redknapp talks about it, he accused of dodgey approaches and the like.
Man City = a rich Arab's play bitch. Not a position I would want for spurs!
Should they sell Lescott and get on with it? Possibly; but how would it affect their defense?
What I think is interesting about the Lescott situation is that Bill Kenwright, while undeniably a businessman, is also extremely passionate about Everton Football Club. Ideally, Everton would take the stand that we never did when the Big 4 came in for Arneson, Carrick, Berbatov and Keane. I just don't see it happening though as the money talked about is ridiculously over the…
