Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 67
Another sunny day to enjoy, perhaps I'd better start getting a tan, have a day at the beach doing nothing on Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 67.
I might pen Spurs Refuse To Lose for tomorrow with my thoughts on the game. I think we would all have taken that result before the game so happy with it, if not with the manner, but that's our style of play.
I thought today I'd throw something else at the debate about four ex-first team players being asked, told to train alone, away from the main first team squad.
There could be several factors.
Spurs don't want them getting injured before they move, hence only really doing fitness work.
The players don't want to get injured jeopardising the chance of a move.
We don't know first hand how professional they have been, I have heard rumours that not all have been helpful shall we say.
There could be a factor of keeping negativity away from the first team group.
Tanguy Ndombele, Sergio Reguilón, Harry Winks and Giovanno Lo Celso will/would not be in the UEFA Champions League squad next season, there simply are no places for them.
They may need forcing out of the club, given they will get lower wages elsewhere.
Antonio Conte plays a system, a well oiled system.
Players know where they have to be and where they have to go, particularly if we are playing one of our first time passing moves.
So, imagine you are training and these four are training with you as an integral part of the training.
What happens when you take 4 cogs out of the machine?
The remainder of the players now have to play different roles, the move has got to happen without those players.
Isn't it better to train the set moves to players who are going to be at the club when the transfer window shuts and who will be registered to play?
Is it not better to take those 4 cogs out and train the rest to play together, they way they will have to do this season?
Following this come news that development player Marcel Lavinier, a 21-year-old right-back, has been axed from the starting XI by Spurs for refusing to sign a ne contract.
The Under 21 side have played Everton and Leicester City thus far and Lavinier, who you'd expect to start having made 19 appearances last season, has not been selected.
Lavinier has a contract until 03 and has refused a ne deal so it seems the club are starting to get tough with players.
Gary Neville on Daniel Levy
"He's built an unbelievable stadium that people want to come and play for, he's got the best training ground in the country, he appointed a fantastic sporting director.
"Hang on [Jamie Redknapp who just wants to knock Spurs), he's built an unbelievable stadium, the best in the world, he's built a training ground that is to die for, he's brought in a sporting director who knows what he's doing and he's now got a manager in that suits what they want to do at this moment in time, Manchester United are the opposite of that."
Gary's point was that the United owners have got to come over from Tampa and sort the mess out at the club.
Those within the game can see what a brilliant chairman Daniel Levy is, our own fans can't. The next step is building the playing side to win trophies REGULARLY, not a one-off trophy.
That was/is the next phase, which is currently the work in progress under Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte.
Neville was making the point that you have to sort out the mess off the field and get the club [Manchester United] running properly before you can sort out the on-field issues.
He was using Daniel Levy as an example of a chairman who has got it right, expecting Spurs to now push on and win trophies.
