Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 29

Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 29

Well there has been a lull before we head off on our South Korea pre-season tour on Saturday, where the squad will meet up with Heung-min Son.

We enter the Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 29 today, Friday, all hoping to hear official news of new signings.

The twists and turns behind the scenes as one change in one deal affects the potential of completing another deal, that we are not all a party to.

Clément Lenglet

The deal negotiated for Clément Lenglet is, I think, exceptional.

He is a far better player than many a Spurs fan is giving him credit for and I think he will excel in our backline.

The only question for me is can he adapt to the pace and physicality of the Premier League, unique in the top tier European leagues.

A one-year loan deal allows us to bid for a left centre-back next summer when one of our targets has a release clause we can activate and the other has just a year left on his contract.

The guy has played 42 UEFA Champions League games and despite being 4th choice at Barcelona, still made 27 appearances.

Lenglet and Richarlison, of our new signings, are the two players I'm most looking forward to seeing in a Spurs shirt this coming season.

Christian Eriksen

I am not in the slightest bit perturbed that Christian Eriksen has decided to go to Manchester United where he will pick up 37.5% more wages than Harry Kane.

So much for wanting UEFA Champions League football, although to be fair, I don't think any teams in the Champions League sought his signature.

I said from the outset I didn't want Spurs to sign him and he should stay at the club who resurrected his career, shown then a bit of loyalty, but no, values go out of the window when money is offered.

In my view there wasn't a place for him in our starting line up, we don't play with an attacking-midfielder so such a player would surely only be used as a substitute, unless they had defensive qualities as well.

Eriksen improved his defensive game no end but you wouldn't want him centrally defending your centre-backs so he would have had to have been a back-up wide player.

I wish him well personally and hope his new club qualify for the UEFA Europa League again next season, as I don't see them winning it or finishing in the Top 4.

Memphis Depay

There are stories circulating that we enquired about Memphis Depay when we discussed Clément Lenglet, but they are probably misleading for you.

I say that because yes, we did talk about Memphis Depay and Lenglet, but that was weeks ago, it was not in the most recent discussions between Barcelona and Spurs to finalise a deal for the centre-back.

Memphis Depay has been offered to us, we have not sought him out, not the same as being interested in a player and not the same as is being reported in the media.

Benjamin Šeško

Tottenham are tracking the progress of 19-year-old (20 next May) Red Bull Salzburg striker Benjamin Šeško, dubbed the new Erling Haaland in Austria.

The Slovenian international (13 caps, 2 goals, 1 assist in 724 minutes) centre-forward is under contract until 2026.

The natural route from RB Salzburg is to RB Leipzig, not an uncommon route.

Spurs are not the only club interested of course, Elvis Basanovic, the players representative, recently met with AC Milan director Paolo Maldini.

Pierluigi Gollini

Whether you supported him as a Tottenham player or whether you were a 'name snob' Pierluigi Gollini is on record as saying he loved his time at Spurs.

That is rather backed up with an Instagram post showing him still wearing his Tottenham training top.

Steven Bergwijn

As you all know Steven Bergwijn has had his Ajax medical at 08:30 the day after our journalists were writing fake stories about Daniel Levy holding up the deal.

The agenda boys latched onto that garbage, when the truth of the matter was as I had written previously, his transfer was merely awaiting Spurs purchasing a replacement which we did in Richarlison.

Our journalists do not get information from the club over transfers, they just write rubbish to keep you reading and the money rolling in from advertising.

Japhet Tanganga

Japhet Tanganga has recover from the thigh injury that kept him out for 146 days since 24 February.

The 23-year-old (24 next March) is the subject of interest and representatives of AC Milan have met with the Englishman's agent to sound him out over a potential move to Italy.

This news comes from the reliable for Spurs news source, being he is best friends with Fabio Paratici, Italian Sky reporter Gianluca Di Marzio.

Tanganga wants to play regular football understandably and that is unlikely to be found at Tottenham for the foreseeable future.

Djed Spence

As I have said before, the fee for the transfer of Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence is agreed, the structure isn't and a sell-on clause has been holding matters up as Steve Gibson, the Middlesbrough chairman, tries to extract every last penny from the deal.

He has wanted payment as if the player has achieved what they think he hcan achieve and I have had this argument before. You pay for what has been achieved, not for what can be.

You only include the 'potential' element in add-ons and then not to the point that it matches his then valuation.

Fabio Paratici agreed a fee a while ago now and the transfer was handed over to Daniel Levy so Spurs weren't stitched up over the fee.

Spurs wanted this concluded last Monday and now want it completed this weekend so Spence can join the South Korea tour, the trip to Israel and Spurs pre-season training..
