Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 26

If any of you use YouTube then check out the Steve Perryman Podcast, a true Tottenham legend in a Q & A session which begins with the toxicity of Alan Sugar's reign at Spurs and Perryman's decision, with Ossie Ardiles, to go to Japan and regain his love for football.

It talks of Bill Nicholson, Keith Burkinshaw, Spurs youngster Graeme Souness and how he could have stayed at Spurs with a different approach.

It is a very interesting listen for guys of that era, like myself. I highly recommend it.

You've got to love stats haven't you, how about this one;

Rodrigo Bentancur made 19 fewer appearances than Arsenal attacking-midfielder Martin Ødegaard, yet created the same number of clear-cut goalscoring opportunities (6)!

Or this one;

The first choice Arsenal front three next season scored 25 Premier League goals last season between them.

Heung-min Son scored 23 on his own!
Harry Kane 17 goals
Dejan Kulusevski 5 goals
Total: 45 goals

Social media always surprises you.

I assumed everyone knew Richarlison had been bought as a rotation player for a squad with three competitions to play before the World Cup in November.

That is going to entail playing football twice a week and not once a week like clubs not in Europe.

Tottenham therefore need a front 4 or 5, not a front 3.

However, opposition fans see Richarlison bought and assume Kane or Son must be being sold!

Talk about small club mentality, something we have had to endure before the stadium put the finances in place to build a competitive squad.

This is also the problem we have with players like Tanguy Ndombele who come from a club where they have no competition for their place and are thus guaranteed a start.

It is a different mentality to rotate and fight for a place, some have that mentality, some don't.

I can see Spurs targeting qualifying from the Group stages of the UEFA Champions League and being able now to put out a strong second XI in the domestic cups.

I can see Richarlison playing in the weaker group games in the Champions League, depending upon who we are playing in the Premier League at that time and how many fixtures we have.

I see him getting 30 mins in other games. I see him getting 30 mins in the Premier League and in other games starting.

In certain games, when we need a goal, we may see him playing as the main striker with Kane as a second striker, Son on the left and Kulusevski on the right.

There will be plenty of football for him to play in rotation in my view.

Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 26

Rodrigo Becão

Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are in talks for Udinese's 26-year-old (17 next January) centre-back Rodrigo Becão.

Udinese want £12m for the Brazilian who has played 99 games in Italy's Serie A since 2019.

I know little about our reported negotiations but I can tell you that Everton and Udinese are a way apart at the moment.

My understanding is that we were negotiating the initial stages as Fabio Paratici does to sound out the player and lie of the land, plus keep the player in the loop over under what circumstances we might want to purchase him.

However, I think the signing of Clément Lenglet from Barcelona might change things, even if Becão is a right-footed centre-back.

Piero Hincapié

There has been plenty of talk of negotiations between Spurs and the representatives of Piero Hincapié and or Bayer Leverkusen.

The Bundesliga side do not want to sell the 20-year-old (21 next January) and thus there is nothing close to being agreed.

He has been another 'option' for Paratici and not a 'first choice' left-sided centre-back target.

That spot has been taken by Clément Lenglet now.

Gleison Bremer

Inter and Torino will meet again next week to see if they can find a solution to the impasse over Gleison Bremer.

Despite his agreement to be allowed to leave for a reasonable fee, it is now being reported in the Italian media that Torino now want 50m for the defender because of interest from Juventus, Tottenham and Chelsea.

Inter have only offered half of that and Torino seem to have upped the asking price by 15m.

Paratici has spoken to him, Conte has spoken to him but his preference is still for Inter.

We will have to wait and see what develops or whether we move onto other targets like Pau Torres.

Jack Clarke

You know all about Sunderland wanting Jack Clarke, who has a year left on his contract and for whom we are asking for £3.5 million.

Sheffield United have thrown their hat into the ring, making contact with Tottenham to ask about his availability and the financial package being asked.

Sunderland are currently awaiting a response from Spurs following their proposal to us.

There is talent there and at 21 Clarke is still young so a club can develop him and reap the rewards of a sale in a couple of years.

The ex-Leeds United winger could be a good investment for a Championship club.

Jack Harrison

Sky Sports are reporting that Tottenham have an interest is homegrown Leeds United winger Jack Harrison.

I would have thought this is solely for the homegrown quota if Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson shoots himself in the foot and doesn't change his stubborn position over Djed Spence.

As you know, Nottingham Forest have offered less than Spurs and Gibson is trying to squeeze even more out of the deal which we are simply not having.

If we therefore move on and bring in a non-homegrown player, we could be looking to bring in a homegrown player, perhaps to develop and perhaps, only perhaps, move on Lucas Moura whom we would like to keep.

That would be in addition to moving on Steven Bergwijn who, one way or another, will not be here next season. He needs to be playing ahead of the World Cup.

Jack Harrison is a 25-year-old (26 in November) left-winger, so having signed Richarlison who can play there, I don't see how this can have any legs.

It sounds more like Paratici having a set of wingers he was interested in and enquire about to assess availability and financial packages, before pulling the trigger on the deal he and Antonio Conte ideally wants.

Anthony Gordon

I have seen the Anthony Gordon approach as something of a PR stunt for Everton fans so they can say to their fans that they fought off Spurs taking one of their rising talents, to placate them after losing their best player, Richarlison, to Tottenham.

There would be riots if they sold off their crown jewel, the best youngster they have had since Wayne Rooney by all accounts.

Well, Everton still have Dele Alli on their books and as soon as he reaches 20 games, the Merseyside club owe Tottenham £10 million.

Everton are in dire financial trouble after mismanaging the £500 million they have spent in the transfer market in recent years.

They have to somehow rebuild with no money, that means selling off the players you can get a fee for and bringing in young cheap foreign replacements on lower wages.

But of course you still have to maintain the homegrown quota, which you can do by keeping experience Evertonians to match the youngsters alongside.

They have two former Spurs players in Dele Alli and Andros Townsend.

The suggested deal now for Anthony Gordon is £20 million plus writing off the £10 million they will owe us for Dele Alli.

José María Giménez

A report has emerged from Spain, via Diario AS of Tottenham interest in 27-year-old (28 next January) Atlético Madrid and Uruguay centre-back José María Giménez.

The international (78 caps, 8 goals, 1 assist) is right-footed and under contract with the LaLiga side until 2025.

Chelsea and Manchester United are also reported to be interested the report says. Manchester City were looking strongly at him in 2020.

I read the report as trying to frighten Chelsea into buying him quickly.

Steven Bergwijn

Ajax have reached our price for Steven Bergwijn, the only club that the Dutchman wanted to join ahead of the World Cup, despite plenty of interest from other Premier League clubs.

Tottenham have agreed a £25.79 million fee (€30m - US$31.36m - AUS$45.62m) for his transfer.

As I said before, we were waiting to sign his replacement before we released him and now that Richarlison has been signed, miraculously this deal suddenly wwent through very quickly.

Who'd have thought it.

Ivan Perišić

Croatia Assistant Ivica Olic on Ivan Perišić:
"I was surprised that he went to England. He had a great season at Inter, I expected him to stay. Ivan has played in Germany, France, Italy but we said England has always been a soft point."

Sol Campbell

Good, after your actions against Spurs and us fans you don't deserve a job in management, you can't be trusted.

You and that other vile creature still in the sewers, Jack Wilshere, deserve to be destitute. Unfortunately you never will be but your characters will ever remain from the gutter.

Good riddance.
